HalloweenCostumes.com "Back to the Future 2 Light Up Shoes"

Re: HalloweenCostumes.com "Back to the Future 2 Light Up Shoes"

Great video!
Was that your first time slimming them?
Is there a way to skim them and keep that clean straight surface?
Or is there no way in doing this without wrinkles?

It was 3rd time doing that.
My first pair was US8 and came out smooth but very "bullet" shaped.
My wear pair is US9.5 and I got wrinkles and slight burn. I don't mind the wrinkles too much as it helps give the 'sock toe" look.
This pair is US13 and it worked out quite well.

I presume it's possible to overcharge your battery. How long do you charge yours? Will only charging it shorter periods of time help the electronics last longer?

Pics should be up now. Stupid iPhone.

Thanks, they are. I wonder why they made different sizes?

FreddyTV has done well on those straps.
001FAB, I am sure the logos are a Glow In The Dark paint.

I use a GIDT powder in my clear elastomer and it is really bright when fully charged.

This image was captured on my phones video camera at 9:30 in the morning after charging the shoes in direct sun for about 1 min. There has been no altering to the brightness of the shot. It really is that bright. The issue is, they fade down quite quickly, but they do glow for hours at night at a low level glow.

These look great !!
Mine are indeed glow in the dark paint, but glow very little.
Yours really look like they are EL lid.
Nice movie accurate shoes!
The wide soles look amazing.
They must have had a lot of time and work spent on them [emoji106][emoji106]

I wish they glowed that bright but don't. I haven't tested them in sunlight yet though, too much rain.

If if my light up straps come out nice enough I'm going to give these gitd to one of my students to put on his.

Thank you :) Yes a lot of work went into them and probably more to go yet.

Because I am mixing in the powder, I can take it to the limit of 15%/volume. When mixing straps or sole parts, I am essentially mixing 15g of GITD powder to every 100g of clear rubber.

Most commercial products would be about 5% max.

I bought 1KG of GITD!

they are going to send me a complete new pair of shoes instead of the strap. so i guess i'll just wait until they come and get the buckle, and send them right back. i hope they don't mind getting back a cut strap. i cut mine so i could put them back on jic for what ever reason. I don't want to have to do the toe mod again either.

Re: HalloweenCostumes.com "Back to the Future 2 Light Up Shoes"

I can attest to the fact that Cavx's glow in the dark parts are much better than the paint on ones the V2's come with. I tried taking a photo of the stock strap next to Cavx's glow strap part in the dark after putting under a lamp for the same amount of time and the stock one didn't even appear on the photo.
Since my lights finally failed I'm looking forward to putting the GITD parts in the soles too when I replace the yellowed ones. :D

stprime Sounds like they don't care if they get these back or not. I'd just keep them and use them for any R&D you suddenly feel the need to do. A proper sock toe might be in order here.
DragonGalvy, I am looking forward to seeing how these look with the new super bright batch of GITD. When I did my original pair, I did make up D shapes and placed them (with the help of some superglue) into the cutouts where the LEDs used to be. Unfortunately, they were not mixed to the max of 15% and they were green as I didn't have cyan at the time.

So I am looking forward to chopping out the sides and replacing them soon.

Ignore my rough lettering. I have since made them look much better and soon will have a laser cut set to make a new mold off. The point being that 1" (25mm) tall letters look better than 3/4" (20mm) letters.

Well they did send me a return label and invoice. I would love to keep them but don't want to be charged again or karma to bite me in the rear end... :/

If they have arranged shipping, then you are best to return them. That is pretty good customer service.

It depends on who you speak with. LEDs come in a range of voltages and that will depend on what power supply you want to run them on as well as the voltage rating of the LEDs themselves. LEDs under 5V don't need resisters and because you will series, 4 LEDs when using 3V leds now equate to a single 12V. You then run three colour runs in parallel. If you do need a resister, you can probably get away with a single one.

The easiest way is to use all clear LEDs and paint the tips with alcohol pens. The more accurate way is of course to replace them with coloured LEDs. Running clear ensures even brightness. Running coloured LEDs could mean that greens are either brighter or not bright enough compared to the other colours and has caused a few members headaches.
