Halloween Movie Marathon 2011

56. Van Helsing
57. The Monster Squad

Van Helsing

A good monster mash-up, but it's just Dracula, the Wolf Man and Frankenstein's Monster, oh and I guess an appearance by Mr. Hyde. It's not great, but I like it. Bunch of plot holes though that went unexplained like how did Dracula know Van Helsing. And mmmm, Kate Beckinsale looks great in those tight pants.

The Monster Squad

"WOLFMAN'S GOT NARDS!!" :lol - so many great quotes in this flick. A childhood favourite. I watch this one every October. One of these days I got to get myself a "Stephen King Rules" t-shirt. One of the best monster mash-ups.

So far this week:
Scream 1 - 4
Friday the 13th parts 3,4,6,7
Nightmare On Elm Street (remake)
Halloween parts I - V
The Strangers

Caught Them on TCM yesterday afternoon. My fav of the A-bomb mutated giant bug films of the 1950s.

Almost forgot: had another dose of James Arness in The Thing From Another World on Saturday. One of my all time favs.

Felt like doing a Johnny Depp/Tim Burton double feature on Blu-Ray...

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Great music! I'm up for a shave and a meat pie. Gory but great music. Some of the lyrics actually sound like an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.

The Horseman wants more cowbell.

Sleepy Hollow

This is Tim Burton at his best. It was and adaption, but it wasn't a remake as this was the first full-length big screen version of this story. Love Tim's designs/styles in this one.

It's funny seeing all the actors that were in the Harry Potter movies in these two Tim Burton flicks.

Scared Shrekless (and Shrek's Thriller)

This was great! I really enjoyed it. Much better than the last two feature-length movies. Really loved the Thriller segment. Would be great to see some more shorter featurettes like this with the Shrek cast.

And finally, closing out the 2011 Halloween Movie Marathon...

Trick R' Treat

Sam gets the spotlight for the last flick this year. Great anthology movie. Would love to see more of these or even a sequel to this one. Like the comic book style, just like the old Creepshow movies.

Was a great Halloween Movie Marathon. Beat my last years' record by 23 movies. I wish we had another week to go. I had another bunch of movies I wanted to watch. Oh well, they'll get first chance next year.

Gonna take a few days break, and then start a war movie marathon for the run up to Remembrance/Armistice Day on Nov 11.
