Halloween 2013 Projects: Supergirl, Wonder Woman & Batman

The goal for this Halloween is to build a Supergirl costume for my nearly 3 year old daughter, a Wonder Woman costume for my wife and last but not least, a Batman costume for myself. For the Supergirl suit, I am taking a lot from the 1984 film.

The main difference is that I will be giving my daughter blue tights to wear under the skirt, since it will most likely be cooler temperatures once it is late October.

The cape is just a red t-shirt I picked up at a dollar store. I'm going to only use half for the cape and use the remaining material to make boot covers. The tights and skirt I shopped around and was able to find on clearance at a couple of department stores. The logo is made of craft foam from a hand drawn stencil. As for the top, I had to order a sporty sweat wicking shirt online. I still have to make the yellow belt and the trim for the boots out of craft foam.

As far as Wonder Woman goes, I am making a mix of the Injustice video game model and the failed tv show from 2011.

I love the bracers on the video game version and the pants on the tv show version on the right.

I hand drew a template for the bracers and left a bit of space (1/16 of an inch) between the stripe type things leading from the center.

I cut it out of craft foam as well. The idea is to seal it in black plastidip and then spray paint them. Hopefully the black in the gaps ends up looking like aging/battle usage. Otherwise I'll just throw some black watercolor on at the end.

As far as the pants go, I got her a pair of blue yoga pants that I will add the darker blue stripe down the sides. And the stars will be made of craft foam as well. I'm not entirely too sure on how to go about making the top. I was thinking craft foam or mat foam for the armor, but if anyone has any suggestions I will gladly take any advice.

And as for the batcowl, I am supremely inspired by Omel and his duct tape method. I will begin working on that this weekend. I will be using platidip to seal the ductape instead of the white glue and spray paint method.
I am not positive as to what incarnation of Batman I am going to go with. That being said, I will be starting with the cowl, then boot/shin guards, then gloves/gauntlets. If time starts to run out on me, I will go with those minimal pieces and just wear a spandex suit a la Adam West and animated series style.

A small thing, but for your bracers, because they're tapered, you need to curve the bottom part a bit, in order for it to have flat bottom once curved.
