That's looking good, man!

The Moebius kit was surprisingly decent, for a model kit that is (obviously took a lot of info from the RPF to make it, seemingly). But the lenses are still wrong of course. I'm not so sure anyone has really perfected the lens-setup as of yet for replicas, especially/mostly considering the original camera lens had to go through the wall based on it's length. The goal for most replicas seems to be for a surface mount setup (which makes sense for practical mounting).

But I think if someone were to duplicate all of the lenses in-line as per the original, we may see a much more similar appearance (eye/light-wise) to what was seen on-screen.

Anyone up for that task? I don't know how to grind and polish glass.. and I don't know any lens makers either =b

Thanks,
Some of these might be helpful to you...
I order the Mobieus kit over 2 weeks ago, I'm not even sure it left Onimodels in Chicago yet:oops:. Anyway, I will be swapping out the Mobeius dome for the glass lens I bought. We will see how it looks....

Very close...sometimes I wonder if the prop makers took that type of grill and affixed thin half rounds on top of it...

Yup, getting the correct "wavy" metal grill is the holy grail. There were LOTS of simply perforated sheet grills around that time. Someday maybe. Someday.

Wow those grills look very close! What paint type and colour would anyone recommend for the speaker grill of the Mobieus kit? Or indeed all of the parts of that kit? I had to reorder the Hal as it never arrived so I want to have all required paint and glue ready to dive in.
I hope glue will be enough to hold in my glass fisheye lens.

I agree, someday..

It's hard to know where to start looking though. Since the original prop was mostly fabricated for the film (although we all doubt the grill was, since the Nikkor wasn't either) but I wonder if the machinist may have cut it from something larger? Maybe some sort of stock or sourceable material around that time period?
