Gumby Costume

just venting..!

thank you very much for the comments!

*time for a long winded story..
(came home from work & knew i needed to get started on the arms.. tried to figure out how to make a big mitten. watched some youtube clips, traced some templates, cut some felt, sewed some up & nothing.. nothing was looking or working right!!! spent 4+ hours trying all sorts of different patters, sizes..
then i remember making a cheese ball mock up way before ever started the project.. dug that out and realized.. i didnt need mittens at all!!! (ish..) i needed big a*^ foam hands! mittenes are way to small for the proportions and were throwing things off.. cut to the chase, hope to have & should be back on track..ish..!)

bla bla..

problem handled..ish..

the new hand and arm lay out..

(it might look odd on the floor.. but its looking pretty good up by the costume..!)

this blows..

these are the fans that blow air out the eyes/vents

(there are 2 smaller fans in the back that push in fresh air..)

im gumby dammit!!

the costume is pretty much done..!

*giving it the test run tomorrow in seattle!

When I first saw this thread I assumed it would be an Eddie Murphy/SNL Gumby costume so I didn't look. Finally tonight I looked. GREAT JOB!
I used to watch Gumby and Pokey as a kid and you really captured his look. The inclusion of the fans before you spend all day in that costume at a con is smart.

Wolf

covered..

* thanks for the comments!

before the con i was able to sew up a bag for transporting the costume..
(it helped with loading it up, getting it in and around & most people didnt know what it was..)

first con..!

Gumby at his first Comicon!! (ECCC 2013)

the ventilation system worked great! (better than my bender costume..) i think it was received well, the photos look pretty good, got lots of comments of childhood memories, smiles & good times!!

such a blockhead..

*along with the Gumby costume i decided to make the Blockheads..

(these are the trouble makers from the show.. sort of props to gumby but also costumes them selves..ish)

**not sure that they need to be there own thread.. so..

blockheads..

managed to make both Blockheads out of one pack of foam..
or 4 sheets

(13" boxes..)

* magnets are mounted in the front to change face features..

what is the third letter in this sentence..?

* thank you!! very much!!

some work on the G & J blockheads..

(letters & eye brow stuff..)

(looks like a mess..)

the mouth, nose & eye brows are all magnetic so the can be changed or moved around..

the eyes i also did like gumby.. a metal grill behind the mesh & the pupils are magnetic..
