Guillermo del Toro's Cronos Device...digging in! COMPLETED

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Cronos Device...digging in! W.I.P

This is so ridiculous. Ridiculously good! Such fine work.

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Cronos Device...digging in! W.I.P

Awesome work. I REALLY hope I can afford one of these if they're offered.

And I'll have to go back and look for that angel statue now!

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Cronos Device...digging in! W.I.P

Here are the finished pieces which will be assembled on
Wednesday (10/03/2012) and picked up along with the display I've had designed for it on Thursday (10/04/2012)
More pics when I have the completely assembled piece on Thursday.

......Wow. Those claws look deadly! I REALLY hope I can afford one of these. :D

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Cronos Device...digging in! W.I.P

Thanks for all the interest guy's and I apologize that I have been un-able to post the pics of the finished piece (pics which I have)
I have as of this morning had a bit of a falling out with my jeweler and he is presently asking for more money than was agreed upon to turn over the finished piece along with the molds and the crystals(the crystals which aren't even his in the first place.)
I'm trying to work it out with him but today is being treated as a cooling down period for us both.
I'll let you all know what comes of this situation as the information presents itself!
Thanks again for all your patience!

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Cronos Device...digging in! W.I.P

I hope you guys can work it out, this is to nice to let rot on someones shelf who doesn't appreciate it's value.

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Cronos Device...digging in! W.I.P

Oh he appreciates the value all right and knows that I need the piece before I can start a real interest thread for it. Basically he realized that he holds all the marbles and can jack the price up to what-ever he wants.
Currently he isn't communicating with me. Definitely get the impression he's letting me stew. I won't be waiting very much longer...

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Cronos Device...digging in! W.I.P

Have you payed for it already? Or just materials? If there was a way to turn the tables on him. Make him regret holding an item that he can't sell or something.

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Cronos Device...digging in! W.I.P

It's too difficult to go into all the in's and out's of the transaction.
Suffice it to say he left the total of the "little bit more" than what I had already paid him until the day I was supposed to pick up the finished piece.
When I reacted less than enthusiastically he took that as his cue to say that he was dropping the discount he was originally giving me and now the TOTAL owed is more than doubled.

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Cronos Device...digging in! W.I.P

Damn shame. Hope you can salvage this.

Sounds like the movie all over again, with him seeing its' value and keeping it all to himself...:unsure

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Cronos Device...digging in! W.I.P

On a related note, I saw on your website a drawing of the top of the device. Is this a still of one of the movie props from the DVD bonus material? I'd love to have a go at trying to replicate any schematics of the device if there are other pics.

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Cronos Device...digging in! W.I.P

Give me a couple of day's H.R.---I'll forward you what I have!
Thanks for the thoughts guy's, I hope to have this sorted very soon...just waiting for a response at this point.

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Cronos Device...digging in! W.I.P

I look forward to seeing what you come up with M.E. :thumbsup

Before I read your message I jumped right in though. Used the image from your website, scaled it up, printed it off, traced it, and drew it in in ink (quite a lot of obscured/missing details had to be drawn in using the symmetrical side for reference):

And my current work in progress based on a screencap (with a TON of detail missing from the angel, which I had to add based on the actual statue):

Much thanks to Adam Savage for his support of this project as I could not have completed it without him.
Thanks to all who followed this thread and commented along the way!
Thanks too to the RPF for providing a space for me to show what I'm up to and to do what I love to do!
Time for a little break!

I take it that means you now have it back from the jeweller? If so, YAY! Looks very cool. :thumbsup

Drawing the schematics, it's amazing how much detail is in the top surface sculpt (also visible on Blu-Ray). It's a pity the jeweller didn't manage to get it all, but rather an overall impression of the shapes.

Oh, and I discovered that although all of the original Cronos devices were stolen (then melted down and sold on the black market - as they were all made from gold), Del Toro had 9 exact replicas made that he has in his possession. Apparently, if he meets anyone he wants to live forever, he gives them one. Harry Knowles (AICN.com) has one. Check out 1:23 -
