Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3

Maybe it's just me, but I was somewhat underwhelmed. The scenes that were supposed to make me "feel" something only felt forced. The music didn't make me want to run out and buy the soundtrack, or even wonder "What was that song?" The worst part is I can't tell my friend I went to see it without him, so I'll likely have too sit through it again next Tuesday. Not a complete waste of money, but I feel like it could (should?) have been better. Or different.

I checked out a few reviews, and many seem to agree with me, but it seems like some viewers are no smarter than Quill when it comes to the Gamora situation (I don't think this is a spoiler, since it's established in Endgame). Gamora doesn't have amnesia and it's not that she can't remember her relationship with Peter. What he (and apparently, may reviewers) expects her to remember simply didn't happen to her because she was plucked from the timeline before they even met. Is it just me, or is that a difficult concept to manage? (Here endeth the rant).

Keep in mind, this is just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

Saw it tonight in IMAX. Having successfully avoided the trailers up to this point, I didn't really know what to expect going in. Initial thoughts...this movie is weird. Some parts are hilariously gross, and others are quite hard to watch. It's far from perfect—there's a lot going on and it gets messy at times, losing its focus and occasionally hard to follow. Probably too many characters and some odd editing choices in there as well. Tonally it's very different from the first 2, and will likely end up being my least favorite, but I still really enjoyed it. It still has the humor and the heart, even if its generally more serious. I deeply love these characters and the corner of the galaxy they occupy, so this was an emotional ride for me. I'm surprised how it ended, but relieved and satisfied. It wraps up in a wonderful and heartfelt end to this lovable band of angry, stupid, and heroic misfits.

As much as it breaks my heart, I really like how they handled new Gamora and Peter having to move on from the old one. It was fun seeing the dynamic new Gamora brought to the team. And surprisingly, Nebula ended up being one of my favorites. Lots of vibrantly colorful sequences that I'd love to experience in Dolby this weekend.

Only real disappointment is Star-Lord never wore his helmet, or got a more comic accurate one to go with his new suit for that matter. What the heck? And what happened to his boot rockets? Those would have been handy during a certain scene near the end...But seeing Peter sporting a dark red Member's Only jacket at the end made me grin—I couldn't imagine him in anything else when it comes to Earth attire. I guess I need to go buy one now.

Yeah that's pretty much my take too.

Adam Warlock? just walk away from what you know in the comics. This isn't even close to that character. Feel a bit ripped off on that. I have read too much Starlin. This guy felt more like Nuclear Man from Superman IV The Quest for Peace. Well ok, not that bad. He got better but it's not Adam Warlock. Not sure that's a spoiler, rather a warning going in. It's a difficult film at times to watch if you are an animal person, went too far in my book to get the point across. Rocket's origin story is not the comics and is another animal so to speak all together. The High Evolutionary? Jeezus... remember eighties villians with no limits on cruelty and always set on 11? Yeah.

I think the music selections didn't have the knocks out of the park the others had. And a bit too many, not every other scene needing a portion of a tune. A few just seemed bad choices actually but tastes vary.

I barely kept it together for the Rocket stuff.

Saw it last night and... *sniff*...*sniff* it was just beautiful. Went home and hugged my cats extra hard for some reason.
Especially the one that looks a bit like Lylla.

Most of all, I felt a sense of relief afterward, since the entire movie was spent worried about who was going to die. Even at the end, with Quill in space I was like "Gunn's not going to go that dark is he?!"

It was more intense than the first two, like one long scene (that's not a negative criticism). Never once did I fell like it dragged over the 2.5 hours. I didn't really react to it until a couple hours after I got home. It was six years of anticipation, with all the "firing Gunn" shenanigans and whatnot messing with things. I need to see it again ASAP. But overall I'm happy that I got to experience, once more, the same feeling as when watching the Star Wars movies when they came out. Last time that happened was with LotR and I suspect it may never happen again.
I'm a bit wary of that final title card... regarding "The Legendary Star Lord". This was an almost perfect trilogy and I don't trust Disney to not mess it up if they do more with the characters.

I came home & felt guilty leaving my dog Doug on his own while seeing the film with my family @ JOATRASH FX
Glad you had the same experience as me

Also, did you see Gunn’s May4th message?

Yeah, the music didn't grab me as much as the other films either. Even the score didn't use the Guardians theme nearly enough, which I was bummed about. Still, some wicked needle drops though. Adam Warlock flying through space to Crazy On You and that No Sleep Till Brooklyn sequence in particular.
The buddy I went with was practically sobbing next to me during the Rocket "death" scene. I was losing it too...lots of sniffles and tears in the theater. The whole Knowhere sequence at the end with Florence + The Machine was crazy emotional, in a relieving cathartic kind of way, but bittersweet knowing this is the last time we'll probably ever see these characters together again. I'm relieved nobody died and they all got to kind of ride off into the sunset, but it still breaks my heart.

Seeing "The Legendary Star-Lord will return" made me happy because he's probably my favorite MCU character. I'm not ready for his stories to be over, but I do worry what they will look like without Gunn at the helm. Same goes for the new Guardians team and Mantis' solo adventures. That's not to say somebody else can't come in and breathe new life into the franchise, but Gunn's particular style of heart & humor is what made these movies so special to me in the first place.

Speaking of Gunn, when Drax says to Adam "everyone deserves a second chance," I couldn't help but think of the journey Gunn has been on to even get to this movie and it made me tear up thinking about how his cast & friends never turned their backs on him and supported him so much Disney eventually brought him back into the fold.

And I agree with the others here who felt they had give extra love to their pets when they got home. I gave my dogs a big hug and felt guilty about any time I've ever been mad at them.

Also, some great new props in this one. Loved Gamora's new blaster, definitely would like to add that to the collection. Rocket's key and Peter's polaroid too.
Everyone with a vintage Panthero will be flogging them on e-bay for $20,000.
I'm sure there'll be a few Orgocorp Sentry white blaster rifles and the organic decagon storage modules too.

I loved it. I wondered where it was going a bit in the beginning but it stuck the landing big time. The only 'issue' i had as others have said is the soundtrack. On the way home i finally found the picture LPs of vol 1 and 2. I could not wait to open vol 2 to play Wham Bam Shang A Lang...i'm sorry, that song's been in my head since opening day :) Same with Come and Get Your Love in vol 1. Nothing is on that level, but frankly, you're fighting perfection on the first two. The songs aren't bad, just not too much that resonated with me.

But, i'll go against what has been said here and say some of the stuff that was supposed to elicit emotion absolutely did. What they did with Rocket and friends is pretty impressive to me. All CG and the emotion there was palpable. To me, that was just impressive work for that.

I'll say I wanted that final fight to go on longer - that guy needed to get the @$%( beat out of him for a lot longer than he got :)

And for that final end credit scene, definitely watch the xmas special :)
I need a newspaper i think :)

I just got back from seeing it with my wife and son and we all loved it. It hit all of the right notes for me and had both really funny and really emotional scenes. I felt that they really gave every character a lot throughout the movie and no one character felt left out.

I will say that the soundtrack was a bit weak compared to the first 2 movies, but I did like the songs that I did recognize. But by weak I don't mean that I thought that it sucked, just not as good as the first 2 movies.

My only real gripe was the High Evolutionary. The character was well written and the actor did a good job but I thought that he was a little too close to Kane. Both were played by black men who had a similar look and both had powers. They could have done a little more to make them a little more distinct, but that was just me.

Well, I gotta be totally honest, everyone.

I totally cried through the last forty or so minutes of the movie.

I went into this hoping that it would stick the landing and be at least the last “good” Marvel movie: now I’m pretty sure I just watched the last great Marvel movie. Sure, the music didn’t have as strong an emotional and narrative purpose, but come on! Acoustic Creep? In the Meantime? There were some dang good songs in there. Oh, and the Beastie Boys showed up I guess.

This movie definitely wrung me out emotionally. A super solid end to a really enjoyable, mostly self-contained trilogy.

I find it funny that Microsoft didn’t want the Zune to appear in Vol. 2 because of how embarrassed by the Zune’s failure. Now, they‘re embracing it for Vol. 3. What a time to be alive, and a Zune owner (I have a white 30gb Zune. And I am not ashamed over admitting it).

So Love and Thunder clearly showed the existance and a full on depiction of an afterlife. Straight up. This seemed to pass without much attention... MCU is showing afterlives. And we see Rocket pretty much seeing an afterlife with a near death experience, we could say he imagined it but it seemed to be real and given they already crossed the line in Thor. Is Stark in iron heaven? Just interesting seeing another incident of this depicted.

Probably not. Doesn’t the soul stone absorb nearby souls into it from recently deceased people? I mean, Natalie and Gamora both died to get it, and it’s suggested that for Natalie, her soul was absorbed into the soul stone (as Bruce stated he tried to bring her back with his snap but couldn’t). Seeing the gauntlet had the soul stone, that means that his soul got sucked into it (and he was to have a similar scene with his daughter in the same plane that Thanos had with young Gamora in Infinity War that was cut, it occurring after he snapped) Maybe I misinterpreted that detail.

I wonder if they will keep depicting things, it does impact how a death lands with an audience emotionally, softens it. Maybe it opens the door for characters like Mephisto from the other place. LOL

Loved it. First marvel film in a while I want see again in the theater.
In regard to the music - my first take was not as good as the first 2 as well. But on reflection after a couple days the music was great.
Particularly my memories associated with In the Meantime will now slowly be replaced with this movie and what was happening in life at this time right now.

I think for me some of the thoughts on the music not being as good has to do with the fact that ( I know this is obvious) in the other 2 movies the music was from Peters mom and had his memories of her directly associated with it.
I agree on hugging the animals when I got home.
Spoilers below:

I want to see it again without the pressure of worrying the whole time who is dying or not.

I like to think gamora giving Peter the picture of his grandfather and some of her looks and body language in the end eluded to her starting down the path again to love Peter.

The Dog Days Are Over already has some built in emotion for me and when the first couple notes hit I was like whoa boy….it was perfect for the final montage and send off for everyone- it hit hard. There was something about the quiet part of that song with Peter on the porch building to a drop and his grandfather immediately knowing it’s him and saying “Peter??” Whew. Doesn’t get much better.

End of an Era thanks for the memories

Well...I just saw it. I was going to post my thoughts but reached right into my head and posted what I was thinking verbatim.
So I'll just go with, "What HE said!"

How many end credits were there and what were they? I know spoilers but, I don't care about knowing. So, if someone were to share I would really appreciate it. Thanks
And I was going to see it yesterday but my cats really sick, like a trip to vet Monday and one this morning sick. So, I appreciate the heads up on the warning about that in advance.
