Grinding Silicone

Here's something I'll bet some of you hadn't thought of when pouring silicone molds. You can actually grind up chunks of silicone cut from your waste molds and grind it up to use as filler for new molds. It will save you some $$$. Just ask me, I know all about it --hint, hint, Scott Once you get a decent covering of your prototype with your mixture in the mold box, just pour in some of the ground up stuff in---then cover over with the rest of the liquid mixture- it really works. In the picture you can see a grinder, which works as well on shore 40 silicone as it does sausage! Wonder if a blender would work.......

Reusing scraps, Now that what I like to here. I save all my latex scraps and use them to make skin and other goodies at halloween time.

Yup Carl, that is the way to go. Been doing that since the mid 90s. You can always tell the recylce minded cause thier molds are all bumpy and speckled on the outer layers!

Yeah, mine have been a touch "too smooth". It's a learning process. The only thing I worry about with shredded latex is excessive air bubbles. I have access to a de-gasser---hope that will get 'em all out.

I myself like prestine molds but I agree for a budget minded person this is the way to go.
