Gremlins Bathroom Buddy

Buddy prototype is coming right along, just a lot of photogrammetry work, adjusting, printing, readjusting, reprinting, and so on.

I am still looking for the correct 'base for the prophy cup handle (I call it the Gummer lol), but this gives everyone an idea of how small this thing is. This gummer prototype is VERY close to the correct size (yeah it's a garbage print):

I found a white CC mirror, not sure if it’s a #4, it’s still on the way to me. It was different enough from @lonepigeon’s #5 that I took a swing on the lot for $20.

Very roughly scaled to the #5 it looks different enough.

I hope I need to pick up some blue ritt dye in the near future…. ;)

Very cool! And dyeing should work, you just have to be very patient :)

I’ll hit you up for pointers if it pans out, should arrive by midweek.
Not to get too far ahead on that project, but there is a silver lining from having to cut down a perfectly good mirror; I think the originals are in fiberglass, that cut off should give you at least a couple of 'paint sticks' to test-dye. :p

Thought it might have a glass rod core… nevermind looked it up, that doesn’t seem to be a thing.

Move along, move along.

The mirror came today, it’s not right.

It’s a #5 like lonepigeon’s, but branded with Clive Craig’s
European subsidiary Dux Dental.

I will post pics of the large pile of extra parts I have, including a huge pile of old nail clippers as soon as my mirror gets here.

I will use the tooth brushes for practice with the tube and or cleaning equipment. I will use the incorrect and correct floss container as equipment in my Star Wars Dioramas.

What the heck do I do with a lot of used nail clippers.??? Make the worlds weirdest alien??

Here’s a brainwave, we pool our lot of extras, make a 99¢ starting bid eBay auction, then split the winnings by however many throw their parts in. I’m sure we could complete a few nice manicure/grooming sets by Christmas for stocking stuffers.
I was planning to recoup a few bucks on one big junkyard or eBay lot myself, why not make it interesting.

Jamesfett Yeah I am up to probably 30 sets of nail clippers that are wrong :) They are with all of the toothbrushes, metal dental mirrors, regular mirrors, off brand disposable razors, etc etc etc

That sucks on the mirror. I'm out the door right now, but I will post a couple of renders of the new CC #4 model today. It does have the print on the handle as well.

Yes, you have blazed the trail, and been at this longer than any of us.

God bless you and all your kin, plus your incorrect parts.

Good to know there's a Dux Dental version. I wonder if that's what the newer ones are I saw in that catalog.
I need to check with my friend if she can get any. Are we still interested if they're correct size and color but Dux?

LOL about all the extra junk we gather doing this project and similar. I have so many misc dental tools, scissors, toothbrushes, grooming kit bits etc. I did a recreation of Doc Brown's toolbelt a couple years ago, all correct tools - I have soooo many old screwdrivers now.
Correct toothbrush info coming. I need to take pics.

I was thinking about that too, I think there are people that would be more than happy with a Dux mirror. We are finding vintage parts every day, but I don't have a lot of hope for a bunch of CC mirrors. I still think the Osung is a great option too until I can get a real or replica CC done.

I know some of us want EXACT pieces, some are OK with a buddy that has 90% perfect, all the way over to people who could care less but love Gremlins and would be happy with to show off a buddy with zero correct parts, because only a handful would even notice the difference on first glance. I don't get as wound up anymore about the 'off' parts I've bought, because down the road I'm sure they can go on to someone who will be more than happy with them for their builds. :)

I'll

Thanks guys!

Welp, I printed up a test body and, low and behold, it was not perfect :lol The overall proportions look pretty decent, but it's TOO BIG. I've got pretty big hands (little over 8 inches/200mm from the base of my palm to the tip of my middle finger), and you can see that it still looks oversized with my mitts on it:

Not a total loss, I was able to start fine-tuning the cutout dimensions for the accessories so that things will eventually fit and operate as they should. A few pieces (completely not screen accurate) just fitted in for fun-zees...

9p5fmo4d0gs2r554g.jpg

Sooo, back to the scaling. Gotta love the weekend, I actually have time to dig into stuff for more than a half hour, so I worked back over my references and decided to run another test body at 95%. I also applied the cutout changes to the design, so with any luck I'll have 4 or 5 pieces starting to fit pretty well.

Also, something that had been chewing on me was the suggestion on a T-shirt that the Buddy had tweezers... While going back over my notes, I found that I had seen (and then i guess immediately forgot after noting it :lol) a small feature on the top of the case. Take a look:

6ylbt25uwyu0dtw4g.jpg

.... I'm thinking maybe the end of the tweezers, sticking out of their slot? Just like the tweezers (and toothpicks) on a swiss army knife, it could slip in and be held under its own tension against the slot walls. Anyways, I've no idea if that's correct, but it'd be a relatively easy addition. Thoughts?

Back to it. Thanks for looking!

It looks good to me. If you plan on getting rid of it let me know.
Keep up the good work buddy!

scarf man pointed me to a pair of broken Revlon clippers so I (of course) bought them. This pair was Revlon but missing the head pin:

I've got a bunch of Dollar store and Dollar tree toe-nail clippers , so I tore down a pair of $1 toe clippers, pulled the pin, and it does install in a Revlon blade and lever set. I would be willing to bet all of these dollar store toenail clippers are identical (or close enough) to work.

My point is, Jamesfett FYI in regards to your 'close' clippers- I tested parts with my other Revlon clippers as well, and the levers and pins are interchangeable. You can absolutely take one of your correct levers and install them on a Revlon base that has the file to make an accurate set; if I end up with an extra Revlon base with file,, I'll set it aside for you.

The dollar store clippers could be used as a cheap substitute, but the buddy's cutout would need some shaving; the clippers are slightly wider than the Revlons, it's only a millimeter or so but enough to not just drop in.

You sir are a genius.:notworthy: I am embarrassed I did not think of that.

Now I have a NOS Revlon set of clippers, but with the correct vintage, non R lever (y) (y) (y)    :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Okay here we go.

All NOS or New, mostly.

Here is my set.

Nail Clippers. NOS Revlon clipper with R lever replaced with Vintage correct lever. Thank you again for the advice Iaellee.

Toothbrush. Close enough until I can find the exact one.

Dental Mirror. I got this one. Again, good enough unless a NOS exact one can be found.

Floss. NOS. Exact one.

File. NOS. Exact one.

Razor. NOS. Exact one.

Light. New

Butler Proxabrush with replacement brushes. NOS. Exact one.

#38 Brush. NOS. I think exact one.

So the ones that are not exact I am happy with, unless NOS exact versions can be located. I prefer these real very close versions to anything 3D printed. As I mentioned I wanted all new stuff as I want this to be fully functional, so other than the freaky pink brush, I want all real.

The mirror looks like a paler blue in person to the original prop, however in the pics it looks like a darker blue and more closely matches the prop.

On the mirror color.

If you held up the mirror I have to the pictures I just posted of that very mirror you would swear it is a different mirror.

It is much more of a pale blue in person.

On some pics of the real prop it looks darker, some lighter. In my hand, looking at the real prop, most of the pics of the real prop look darker, like the one below. Others seam lighter. In the pics I posted of this very mirror in my hand it looks darker than any of the prop pics even though it is much more pale in person.

Obviously lighting, camera, etc. are a factor. Just FYI

:unsure: :confused: :( :oops::eek::rolleyes:

Jamesfett Since your intent is to use the implements, you’ll probably want to use a keyhole notch as the connecting point for the razor & toothbrush so you can easily replace them when they wear out. Instead of just a hole going through, you’d have a pinched slot on the end of the razor or brush handle, and snap it onto the pin going through the buddy.
