Do you mean the overall story to the red ring, or is there something more specific you are looking for?
Before the Green Lanterns the Guardians first had the Manhunters who were robots that were supposed to keep order in the universe. They basically malfunctioned and decided the best way to keep order was to end all life. Without life there could be no chaos.
They managed to destroy all life in sector 666 except for 5 beings (known as the inversions) before the Guardians stopped them. The five inversions swore revenge on the Guardians.
Eventually, Attrocitus killed the other four inversions and somehow used there blood and his own rage to make the ring and powere battery as a way to get his revenge on the Gardians.

Not really.
Because the GL corps has been around a lot, there are variations on theirs, but in the other corps, the rings all seem the same.
And, as for the red ring and lantern, Atrocicus was able to tap in the red spectrum of rage, same as the Oans were able to harness will (green) and Sinestro fear (yellow)
