Green Lantern Movie Ring

And they re-canceled it again.

Mattel says on their official site that there were quote/unquote "production problems" that would prevent them from making the Feb. 25th release date. They did not specify what those problems were. With Mattel, who the hell knows? They rarely offer concrete information and seem to much prefer offering you a song-and-dance instead. It could have been anything from overbooking the preorder, to not getting all the likeness approvals in, or to the ring being made out of arsenic and lead. Mattel's spokesguy on their forum, "ToyGuru" then added that Toys'R'Us jumped the gun on the offering and should not have put the toy up on the website so soon. Well, which is it? Production problems or the retailer jumping the gun on the date? And neither Mattel nor TRU explain why our preorders had to be canceled. I would have accepted a delay cheerfully rather than have to order it again.

Latest word from the ToyGuru is that TRU has the OK to offer the toy again sometime after Feb. 1st for a March delivery. It is still limited to a run of 2,814 and will be one per customer.
Thanks for the info

Actually... only SOME people had their orders canceled! Mine has NOT been canceled. And there are others on the Green Lantern Corps Messageboards that ordered this time and have not been notified of cancellation, either. In fact, when we check our orders on the TRU website, it says under order status: Item(s) on hold until release date.

I'm thinking that what happened is they took more pre-orders than they had figures for, and canceled all the orders placed after 2,814 of the figures had been pre-sold. For example, maybe 3,500 orders were logged by the system before TRU pulled it from the site, so the final 686 people had their orders canceled. First come, first served and all that. Just a theory, I could be wrong.

Thanks for the info, Jack. Mattel made it sound on their message boards like ALL the orders had been canceled; likewise the customer service rep I bitched to at TRU. Both insisted that the figure will go back up sometime after Feb. 1. Glad to know somebody will be getting theirs no matter how it shakes out! I always feel better when things like this go to fans, not scalpers, and, I dunno, call me crazy but I think you might be a fan of GL! :lol

Noble has gotten the license for the ring which may preclude Mattel from continuing with their plans. The big question now is how well Noble will make the replica, they have been very hit and miss with their products.

So the band tapers now? And the face.............

..sticks out an inch and a half from the finger?

Like Shadowfox21 said...

apparently that's NECA's Green Lantern Projector Ring. It's basically a flashlight that you wear on your finger, which projects a GL logo up to 50 feet away.

The movie figure with die-cast ring is back up on the TRU site and available for pre-order as of 8:50 AM EST this morning, 2/2. Now limited to 1 per customer. Maybe that'll slow down the scalpers a little.

I ordered one. I wonder how it will look and feel compared mine

it always said one per. notice they upped the price?
Precisely. It's ALWAYS said "Limit 1 per customer" all 3 times it's been on their site. But the site doesn't limit you to a quantity of 1. You can type in whatever quantity you want. And over on the GLC Message Board, we had a member that ordered 2 on the first round of pre-orders, then contacted TRU Customer Service to confirm that he would receive 2. They said yes... then they canceled everyone's orders.

And yeah, the greedy bastiches have raised the price to $28.14 each. I went ahead and placed a second pre-order at the new higher price, even though my order from the last time still hasn't been canceled. I figured better safe than sorry. This way, hopefully I'll receive at least 1. And if they completely fill both orders, I'll have a total of 4, which means I can sell a couple of my duplicates to fans that missed out! :cool

Of course, if the ring truly is as crappy as in the picture ToyFare published, I may be selling every single one I receive, as the ring is all I care about.
