Green Lantern Movie Ring

Instead, you have to be KILOWOG to wear the damn things!

Or as I like to say the rings are man sized :lol shoot size 13 in my ring finger.
My ring slinging finger is a 15-16 depending on the style/shape of the ring

of course being 6'2 and bear-like I do miss out on the smaller size rings :cry

Same here. 6'6"; 275 lbs. and my ring slinging finger is a solid 15 as well.

To bring the thread a little more back on topic, and for the sake of completeness, here's both of the large promotional images DC Direct has provided of their Movie Power Ring Prop:

DCDirectMoviePowerRing2.jpg

And here's the promotional image of the Movie Power Battery Prop with Ring:

DCDirectMoviePowerBatteryProp.jpg

And here's the ACTUAL Power Battery Prop (Prototype, anyway) as seen at Toy Fair...

GLmoviePowerBatteryProp.jpg

...let's hope the lights in the room were just overpowering the lights in the prop. 'Cuz if they weren't, then DC Direct is clearly misleading people with their promotional image.

EDIT: CLICK HERE to see that Toy Fair image in an absolutely GINORMOUS size where you can make out more detail! You can definitely make out that the light is NOT only coming from the "lens" on the front, it is also DEFINITELY shining out through the body of the lantern, like it should. I'm guessing the stage lights were just bright enough to overpower it. Hopefully the included lighting system is brighter than what was used in the metal Hal Jordan battery from a few years ago.

I just got the ring from toys r us today. number 1318/2814.... I like mine better =)the resin looks better than their injected molded plastic, and the gem is just a piece of plastic and doesn't look as cool. the band is metal and shiny though, but it's pattern is weird, and has the made in china matetel thingie on the ring on the back .

its not as good as the ones posted a few posts before this one, by a long shot

I got mine yesterday. #2768, so I made it in under the wire after being canceled TWICE by the powers-that-be at TRU.com. I have to say I'm disappointed. The packaging is very, very nice, but the figure itself is on a par with the Star Wars figures of five years ago. The base is nice. The ring itself is too small for me to wear -- I'm size 15 -- and is inferior to zenix's stainless steel ring in just about every way. The band is weird, not particularly screen accurate based on what we've seen so far, the green plastic is dull and the gemstone is dull. With no hole in the band and no way to allow light to refract through it, it looks like what it is, a nice toy. I'm sure it's far superior to the plastic kiddie rings that are going to come with the movie toys, but overall, not worth the $28.14 I paid for it unless it turns out to be a nice souvenir of a memorable film.

"and the gemstone is dull"....

the gem stone on the one they sent me moves, and is made of plastic!

someone should put up comparison pics
Ask and you shall receive!

...in a minute. ;)

As for my 2 orders, I received figures 2533, 2677, 2679 & 2684. Considering that they were split between 2 orders, placed at 2 different times, I'm VERY disappointed that ALL of my figures had serial numbers near the end of the run and split up so randomly. They clearly did NOT ship these in numerical order, in the order in which customer orders were received. :angry:thumbsdown

But as for the ring, I'm pleased with it. Even with its inaccuracies, it's a MUCH better ring than I expected from Mattel. I just wish someone had seen fit to explain and show with pictures how easy it was to remove the ring from the box BEFORE I disassembled a box trying to figure out how to get it out. Just to look at it, with the glossy finish on the band, it looked as though it might have been held in place by a layer of clear plastic. As it turns out, all you have to do is reach in through the oval hole in the box and pull the ring out.

But even though it's better than I expected from Mattel, it still exhibits Mattel's typical LACK of good quality control practices. I inspected all 4 rings. Most had chips/flaking in the "smoke" colored finish that gives the weathered appearance, revealing the bare, silver-tone metal underneath. Some also had uneven spraying of the "smoke gray" color, resulting in dark spots and light spots. Also, on some, some of the recessed detail areas were missing the black paint that's supposed to be in them. Some of the plastic front pieces also had visible "seam" lines from molding, and at least one had a rough end that looks like what you get when a part is broken off of a sprue and isn't sanded/smoothed afterwards. Also, the "ring" around the center gem has been left translucent green, instead of being painted the metallic color it should be.

After carefully inspecting all 4, I chose the best looking of the lot to keep out on display, and will most likely wear it to the movie premiere. I wear a size 10, and based on how loose it is on my finger, I'd say it's at least a size 11. Wearable, but a little loose for me. But definitely more wearable than DC Direct's Kilowog-sized rings will be! :rolleyes

All in all... I'd say that in some ways, the special preview ring that was sent to "the great & the good" was a little better... and by "the great & the good" I mean "the RICH"... the center stone being a lighter color looked better, for instance. But in some ways, Mattel's looks a little nicer. So, it's a toss up as to which is better. I really wish one of "the great & the good" would see fit to list their ring on eBay so I could snatch it up and make a more direct comparison between the 2. :unsure

And now, here's some pics that were taken by various members of the GL Corps Message Board:

I agree that the ring did not look horrible but it did lack in the bling area, But with a little modification it can look as though I believe it was intended.
Here are the before pics, I felt the Gem is way too Dark and the nicks on the face detract and are not attractive at all. IMHO.
Also I did not like the fact that the sides did not have defined notches on the arms.
On another note: My ring and stand have a #2 printed on the backside of the plastic face? Look close in the 1st pic in the bottom left corner of the face. Anyone else have that? The other figures I ordered did not have this??

Here is the one I Customized by drilling out the center and adding my gem to it as well as coloring the underside of the face a bit Green.
I also sanded a lot of the nicks down on the face, so that they are not so prominent.
I also silver painted the ring around the gem.

I hadn't noticed that, but after double-checking all 4 that I received, it turns out that 3 of them have the # 2 in the corner, and the 4th one has a # 1 in the same location. If you recheck all of yours, I wonder if the rest have a # 1 there? :confused

Excellent work! While I disagree about the nicks on the face, I DID notice the missing nicks/chips on the "corners", and I had already mentioned that it needed the silver ring and a lighter center stone. Looks much better the way you've done it. :cool:thumbsup

I STILL want one of these! I've had daily, automated eBay searches running for MONTHS now, every couple hours, and not ONE of these babies has turned up for sale yet! You mean to tell me that not ONE of the bloggers that received one of these is a poor 20-something that could use some extra cash? LAME! :angry:thumbsdown

BY THE GUARDIANS! Mattel will be including a LIGHT-UP version of their "adult collector" ring with the large scale electronic Hal Jordan figure from the Movie Masters line! See a tiny glimpse of it in this video clip!

The ring is interactive! When you hold it to the figure's chest, both the ring and figure light-up with pulsing lights, and the figure has sound effects, too! Very cool! :cool:thumbsup

And most importantly, the ring does NOT look obnoxiously large like the light-up rings that NECA will be offering! :)

Here's some screen captured images taken from the 1080p High Def version on YouTube... taken from about 10 seconds in, and again from around 21-22 seconds in.

I wish we could get a better look at it, but the person that took that video was an idiot that doesn't think like I do! I would have put the camera intro "macro" mode and would have got a much better, close-up shot of the ring with the light effects active. You can just make out that they pulse on and off, like on the figure. :cool:thumbsup

Then I did some checking... thanks to ToyNewsI.Com, there's a few well-focused pics of that ring, but only with it UNlit. Too bad they didn't snap some pics with the light effects running.

Nevertheless, here's a little bit better look at that ring:

If you ask me, Mattel needs to make a full-size "Adult Collectible" movie power battery prop and package that ring with it, and give it the interactive lights and sounds too! As a replica of the filming prop, it wouldn't be as good as DC Direct's, that goes without saying, but how sweet would it be to have a power battery at an AFFORDABLE price that, when you touch the matching ring to its face, both the battery AND ring light-up with interactive light and sound FX? It would be AWESOME! :D

EDIT: Well, poop. I just found another YouTube clip, showing a much better look at the ring and its lights effects. Turns out the green LED lights are in the DISPLAY BASE, not the ring itself. Stupid Mattel. (n)angry

Watch the clip HERE to see what I mean. :unsure

Hey Jack... Question:

Why the need to get 4 figures? I mean, 2 I understand. Maybe even 3 (1 to keep sealed, 1 to open, and 1 to open and customize). But 4? I'm not trying to be rude or anything, just curious why 4 of a the same figure thats limited to 2814, and expensive? Kinda keeps those of us who want just 1 figure in the dark.
