Green Lantern Movie Ring

Because Nexnox and I are the guys loading the brass into the CNC machine each time we make a set, lol.

It DOES look silver, doesn't it? There's a few ways to make brass silver... ;)

I realize you guys probably can't show us a finished ring, but is there any way we could see more of what you guys are doing there? If I had to guess the pic of the brass chunk looks like the center hole on the face is being milled out, but I am curious as to what the other parts might look like, say maybe a side view showing the band a little more. Is that a possibility?

Doubtfull any non-industry people will see any behind-the-scenes photos of the rings, at least not until the movie comes out.
From what I've learned, the props from this movie are well guarded and WB has made a point NOT to get one out there, case in point the Comicon winner who has to wait until the premier of the movie to actually get the ring.
I am hoping that whomever picks up the license for these props will be truly faithful to the original prop. I don't know about you guys, but it really "grinds my gears" when replicas are produced in 'polystone' or cold-cast porcilyn (spelling?).

So how bout doing an rpf run?

I don't know if you're kidding, but there's zero chance that would ever happen. Not unless we decide to quit our jobs in a spectacular fashion. :lol

Unfortunately, we can't show you guys ANYTHING. We're under a pretty rock solid NDA that covers everything we work on. I thought they would have shown stuff by now, but I guess WB is keeping it close to their chest.

I'm pretty sure there will be licensed rings. What they will be made of is anyone's guess. *shrug*

Yeah, I'm kidding of course. I know all to well how such things are frowned upon. Our hobby really has nothing to do with the actual business of the work you do.
Hopefully when a licensee begins doing these, they will have original copies of the completed rings and/or parts to do a faithfull repro of. Not really sure what kind of work goes into making them but hopefully it is something that can be done on a commercially available basis.
Even though there are people all over thirsting for more info on this movie, it really is too soon yet. We have quite a while for the premier and I suspect within the next few months we may see more production material released - licensed products may not hit the market until a month or two prior to the movie's release I would suspect.

I understand. Does the NDA ever expire? I for one would love to see some making of pics after the movie comes out if that is possible.

I second that, but likely the answer is no.
I have some ideas of how to go about doing a replica based on what we've seen combined with some theories I have. I drew up a diagram I just need to scan it and post it.

I'm REALLY hoping for one of those "Art of" type books for Green Lantern, with a look at all kinds of behind-the-scenes artwork, including a look at the film's props. Or if nothing else, a D.K. guide book with some decent photos of the filming prop. Keeping my fingers crossed... :love

I agree; I hope the "Art of Green Lantern" book happens. I would love to see detailed images of designs not only of the ring and battery, but of Abin Sur's alien tech, sets, models, the whole shebang.

I can't wait for this movie. I sure hope they do the ring and power battery justice. The pics of the ring so far may not be true to the normal Hal ring but they look pretty good.

Contrary to what most casual fans are aware of, Hal Jordan actually began his tour of duty in the comics with this exact style ring!

It is my own personal belief that the movie ring was directly inspired from the version pictured above. One of the big giveaways is not simply the block design, but the 'dome' center which is carried over to the movie counterpart.

Hal Jordan started off with a round signet ring. They upgraded the ring way later. Then Hal had that one destroyed by lord malvolio and went back to using the round signet style.

At least we can say the movie ring is an accurate representation from the comics.
I think they (the powers that be) made the right decision with the movie ring's design.
From a merchandising standpoint, the ring's design isolates the logo so it can be seen even in silhoette.
I'm really tired of the debate on the design - I wish the studio would release some actual photos of the ring already!!!

Im curious if Sinestro will have a yellow ring towards the end of this movie or not, and if he does what will the movie version of his ring look like? also will there be any other versions of GL rings in the movies perhaps for the alien lanterns?

If they stick to the basic story of the first draft script, then Sinestro will still be a 'good guy' by the end of the film.
I am suspecting they are deliberately holding off on turning him bad until the second or third film - which is a wise choice. To build up towards his turn to evil would be much more dramatic over the course of two movies rather than one.
The yellow element WILL have a role in the first movie and we will see a hint of Sinestro's desire for the power of the yellow element.

As long as I get Guy Gardner and Jack T. Chance I'll be happy. I may have to wait until the second movie though.

You could say I'm a little bit of a GL fan

I agree they need to release more pics. We need at least one good pic of the ring. I'd like to see the battery to. I'm interested in seeing Kilowog to.
