since the ring is shown at an angle, shouldn't the top be more circular than oval?
I actually like the center of the ring on that poster a bit better then the real one. The real has a sort of step down to simulate a Fresnel lens.
Fun fact: the artist who actually designed the rings built his models in solidworks too.

I'm still itching to see what this thing really looks like - any new theories? I'm pretty confident a licensed replica will be produced....but the wait for that is just as tormenting as the wait for the movie!
I had a thought....
Perhaps the movie ring was cast in clear plastic, then airbrushed with clear green?
The ring bodies are machined brass.

No store bought ring I assure you that. It was designed and modeled in 3D. Thought I would tease you all a little bit here, been waiting for this thread to appear to do this.
