Graflex Clamp Question

Just saw several Graflex 3 clamps and Graflex 2 ones and I am wondering if they have the same size, since I want to buy a pair of them for my future Obi-Wan New Hope saber.

That's great. I wanted to confirm this, so this way I can buy Graflex 2 cells and cannibalize the clamps. Did not want to waste a Graflex 3 for that :lol

Where are you guys getting your clamps? I also need one for my future Obi build.

I don't really understand the 2 vs 3 clamp :confused (I'm a bit new at this)

I agree, I would also be interested in one if the opportunity should be there.

Thanks,

The found item is the Graflex flash unit. This entire assembly holds your batteries for your camera's flash. Different quantities of batteries could be use with these units depending on which one you have. The 2 cell only holds 2 D batteries. Rather than manufacture a totally different unit, the flash comes apart at the middle (thats the clamp!) so only the bottom (the simplest part to make) could be swapped. There are even 4 cell bottoms that are really long, for 4 D batterries of course.

Everyone got that?

Alright no one likes Parks, so who is gonna make some clamps? I want one that does not say Graflex... and MR didn't space those stamped lines quite right.

eBay, my friend. And be prepared for a bidding war. I've lost count of how many Graflex auctions I've lost. I still don't have one, let alone an extra to canibalize for a clamp.

The flash tubes came in a few sizes. 2 cell, 3 cell, and (I think) a 4 cell. That means they held 2, 3, or 4 batteries inside the tube. The one that Luke uses is a 3 cell. The clamps that hold the two tube halves together are all the same. The only thing that differs is the length of the bottom half of the tube. Since everyone and their mother (and me) are after 3 cell Graflexes to make Luke lightsabers, it's cheaper and easier to just buy a 2 cell Graflex if all you want is the clamp (or other assorted parts).

I too will be putting together a RussRep Obi saber, so if anyone has a spare clamp they want to get rid of, or one of those useless 3 cell graflexes ;) let me know.

EDIT: Grrr, beaten. Typed all that for nothing.

Clamps and tops are indeed the same size. Only the bottoms differ. The 4- and 5-cell bottoms also don't have the Graflex stamp.

I bought a 3-cell, got the clamp for a V2 and used the rest for a Vader ROTJ. A good way to eat the whole bufallo, metaphorically.

So essentially, it doesnt matter if you buy a 2cell or 3cell flash unit. It's still the same clamp on either flash units, correct? The diameter of the clamp is the same regardless of it's length (length = number of batteries it holds), right?

Here is a picture on eBay. This unit can get expensive it seems:

exactly the same

And it is against board rules to post live auctions. Please edit your post and remove the link

RussRep said he is playing with the idea of making clamps!!!

The black plastic clamps used on the Vader Heiland/MPP flash actually seem to be much harder to find than the Luke Graflex. I'm having the damndest time finding them.

The only person I know of that makes replica MPP clamps is Blast-tech (blast-tech.com). Oh and they are metal, not plastic. Unless you mean the inner sleeve. Thats plastic.

Well, I was able to bought a Graflex 2 Cell and removed the clamp. It is in great shape, almost mint. But, yes there is always a BUT, Is it possible to chrome it?:unsure
