GotG Starlord/Peter Quill 20 day countdown

I been looking for a jacket like this but some places here and there I get bad reviews. What website did you get yours from

8 days to go!!

Ok, unfortunately, not much to report. Im still waiting on my pants and sling bag to come in the mail. From what Ive been able to figure out from the Chinese tracking system, my pants have at least made it to the US. The Bag has given me a delivery date of the 15th-21st, but the tracking has no information so far other than its been checked in somewhere in China on the 9th. This weekend will be a big project day. Starting with the Infinity stone orb, im going with the Styrofoam ball method. I was hoping to find something with a little more weight to it. But, for now, Styrofoam is the way to go. I will also be painting my wife's gun, anyone who is familiar with the Nerf Stampede will know that this is no small endeavor. The gun is huge and has a lot of little details. Speaking of my wife, her full outfit has finally arrived. I was really worried about the orange in the pants not matching the orange in the top, but they are spot on. All put together it should be really cute. Ive also downloaded the Awesome Mix Vol 1 and burned it on to a CD. Now I just have to find the time to drive up to my parents house to use my old boombox to transfer the CD onto an audio cassette. (preferably when their not home :p)

On another note, I found out that some of the featured guests at Wizard World Chicago this year include Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and Michael Rooker. Im pretty psyched to get some pictures together with them, so heres hoping that the Con isn't as much of a cluster-**** as it was last year.

Possibly devastating news :(

The status on the shipment of my pants has changed to "origin post is preparing shipment." I had to google this to find out what it means. Apparently, my package is still in China, sitting in a cargo container. When the container is filled with other shipments headed to the US it will depart. So, my pants could be help up for quite some time. Enormously frustrating considering that I ordered them in the first week of this month. I am now extremely worried that it wont make it here in time for the 23rd.

5 days to go!!

Recovering from the pants catastrophe (pantastrophe?) I was able to find time this weekend to work on my jet boosters, Infinity Orb, and my wife's ridiculously oversized gun. Im not super enthused about how the Orb came out. Its ok, but could be a lot better. I don't have pictures of that yet, I might try to redo it. The boosters were slightly more successful. I wasn't really able to alter their look much from the base that I started with. Partly because the piece itself is unrelenting and wont come apart, and partly because I wasn't able to fabricate anything in the time allotted that looked decent on it. So, while I think these will work well for this weekend, I may have to make something more screen accurate for another time.
I started using this Capn America toy binoculars...

I then painted it using the same method I used on my nerf guns. With a little finishing with a glossy black acrylic for details...

Heres a shot of the front and back. The back is a little dark, but I used a thin foam sheet to even out the surface, and used a combination of Gorilla glue and hot glue to affix the belt clip side of a covertec clip to it. The clip slides over the side laces of my boots and holds relatively well. I will just have to be careful that I don't catch them on things at the con.

Repainting my wifes Nerf Stampede for her Rocket costume was a bit of chore. Just a lot of nooks and crannies, and no easy way to get at it all. Though, I pretty happy with the result regardless...

I got notice that my sling bag is actually in Chicago, and will most likely get delivered today. That makes me extremely happy, cuz I can fudge the pants and use a dark pair of jeans if necessary, but not having the bag would have been bad. Basically would make having an orb pretty pointless, cuz I don't want to just carry it around. Oh yeah, and I also was able to transfer my awesome mix vol 1 from a CD to a cassette tape. Not that I think Ill actually need it, but I thought in case anyone asks, I want to be able to provide the music. My wife thinks that's a bit crazy and was trying to convince me that I didn't need both sides done, but whatever.

I need to know what people are doing to holster their Quad Blasters? I know in the movie hes got some kind of clip, Is anyone trying to make something like that? Or have an alternative? I originally planned on just making some fabric loops that I would sew on the pants and fasten with a snap around the handles. That's my game plan unless I can find something different. Any suggestions?

Nice progress! Lovin the big ass blaster for your wife! Just my thought from one pic, but maybe it could use a little more silver to balance out all that black? Take that or leave it, it looks great regardless. The boot rockets look pretty good too. Do you plan on going back and modifying them further when you're not under a deadline?

I will either modify them further, or just start over from scratch with a more forgiving base. The gun actually does have a lot of silver on it, the picture is dark and doesn't quite do it justice. However,I was thinking of maybe putting a bit more on to make it stand out more when I have the time this week. I was just focused on getting the boosters done this weekend.

4 days to go!!

Bag arrived yesterday! Its awesome! Totally goes with the outfit perfectly. I highly recommend it. Upon further scrutiny, I have decided that my Orb is nice looking and I will use it after all. Im just going to punch it up with a bit more silver.

It looks like Ill be using a dark pair of jeans for the pants this weekend. Im a bit disappointed, but its whatever. Tell me what y'all are using to holster your blasters?

I would love to see the bag, would you mind posting some pictures? :D

Here is the bag that I bought...

I took a mirror selfie last night with the jacket and bag etc. Doesn't really show it all that well. Ill get some more pics tonight.

I really want to sew the shoulder flaps down, they bug me.

As for a mask... I just straight up don't like the way it looks So, I will not be using one. Thought I might make the behind the ear piece though. I was thinking just some foam, paint and spirit gum. But ill have to see if I have the time.

Nice.

I've been considering having the shoulders sewn down too. Post pics if you do it, i think many people would be interested in how that looks.

The challenge is the liner. Sewing them down straight, without removing the liner, would sew the liner down to the jacket itself. Not totally bad, but might feel weird, and could look funny. I thought I might try to sew it at an awkward angle to hide the stitching. Either way, I have make a stop on my way home to get sewing needles. The one I had was too skinny and broke when I tried to use it.

The costume looks so dope, dude! How much did everything cost? I'm thinking of doing a starlord cosplay here in Turkey but if it's too much money I'll just make the mask and get the guns and try to make a futuristic space looking costume with my own clothing or some cheap things.

Thank you so much, bro. I might ditch the clothing and can buy bag, guns and boosters probably. I'm waiting for your results. Thank you, again.

2 days to go!!!

Here are some pictures of the sling bag from the front and back..

You can also kind of see that I fixed the shoulder flaps. I sewed them down. It was not super easy, and my fingers are still a bit sore, but Im 100% happy with the results, it looks so much better. Here is a close-up of the shoulder sewn down.

I got my arm raised up in the air, and no stupid gap. Yay!

Also, here is a picture of my Infinity Orb...

I used a Styrofoam ball that I got from the floral section of the craft store, and burned in the shapes with a soldering iron. I actually had a lot more detail in it that unfortunately got lost in the paint job. I may still touch this up to make it better. Maybe a bit more silver in areas, and deeper blacks in the pits.
