I got quite a funny reply from this seller when I asked about shipping prices. Seems like some of the meaning was lost in translation. :lol

"Welcome to do business with us, my dear buyer. The postage is the same as the "Standard Int'l Shipping" to Australia, my dear buyer.
It is US $8.89, and for the additional one it is $6.89, my dear buyer, and we just have updated it and you can buy it direclty, my dear buyer.
Thanks and welcome to doing business with us, my dear buyer, and if any other question, please feel free to contact us.

I get the feeling I'm his dear buyer. ;)

1 More day to go before Comic Con!!

Got some amazing news when I woke up this morning. Seems that my pants made it to Los Angeles last night at 6:30pm and were shipped out of LA to Chicago at 11:30pm. So, it is quite possible that I will have a nice surprise waiting for me when I get home from work today. I had completely written off the possibility of them getting here in time and had resigned myself to picking up a cheap pair of dark jeans after work today. Im really glad that I don't have to do that.

I did some testing with my holster method. I think it will work. Im just hoping that it will be secure enough to not be swinging a lot on my hips when I walk.

Ill post some pics on Friday when everything is all done, hopefully the pants will have arrived by then and my holster method will have proven itself sound. Then on Saturday or Sunday, Ill post some pics from the Con. Hoping to get my picture taken at least with Dave Bautista, and maybe Michael Rooker, and possibly Karen Gillan if the line isn't too long.

I did finish the Rocket costume, mostly. Everything arrived in a timely manner. Picked up some face paints yesterday, made sure it included black and white. Now I just need to put the finishing touches on the shoulder strap for her gun. My wife is very excited, she even attempted to build her own potted Groot plant, but decided that it was a bit too much and didn't really have the necessary materials. I think she has resigned herself to getting one of the Funko Pop Vinyls of Groot at the Con instead.

Ok, this is it. Last day before Wizard World Chicago. My pants did not come last night, but I have received confirmation that it has been delivered today. So, I've got that waiting for me when I get home. (yay!) Hopefully, they will fit and work out. (fingers crossed) I will have a lot of sewing to do tonight to get the holster system ready, Ill take some pics along the way. I was able to use the shoulder strap from my bowling bag to make the strap for my wife's BFG, it looks pretty cool. Cant wait for tomorrow!!

Apparently I'm on the pants rollercoaster. USPS lied to me. :( my pants did not arrive. Even though they were checked into the post office 2 blocks from my apartment at 8am and the log states "out for delivery." So I'm guessing that they will come tomorrow when i am at the con. So sad. Anyway, I found an old pair of black military pants that should work ok. I have begun my holster system. I have one side done and it works swimmingly. So at least there's that. Pictures soon.

Dude, the jacket looks stellar! Would you mind going through how you were able to sew the shoulder flaps down? I know you were worried about it before and I'm glad to see you were able to do it and it look so good.

Cheers,
Aeric

The Con was awesome!! So much better organized this year. It didn't feel congested at all. The aisles were all very wide and accessible Good job Wizard World! I saw a few other Star Lords there other than myself. 1 or 2 with the varying degrees of the stuff we see here, the fjacket, nerf guns, etc. And there were 1 or 2 that were just wearing plain red leather jackets and messenger bags. My costume held up pretty well, but one of my boot rockets popped off on the escalator towards the end of the day. An easy fix.

I did get to meet Michael Rooker, he was super nice and loved our outfits. We also met Michael Dorn, (Worf from Star Trek TNG, DS9) He was kind of a dick. We weren't allowed to get a picture with him, (gotta pay extra for the special photo op) and he was really dismissive and grumpy. Usually the celebs there are really engaging and ask a lot of questions cuz they don't want to have to talk about themselves any more. We tried a couple times to line up for Dave Bautista but the line was so incredibly long, would've ended up waiting there all day. Karen Gillan didn't even have a table set up. At least, not on Saturday. I think she was there just for the special photo ops and GotG panel.

My wife and I got stopped a billion times for photos, a really positive reaction from the crowd. Though, I was surprised by the mixed reaction of the adults, most knew who we were and liked our outfits, but there were many who had to guess and hadn't seen the movie. However, the reactions from kids was mindblowing. Kids loved us! I cant tell you how many kids ran up to me or waved at me shouting "Hey Star Lord!" or "Look its Star Lord" It was very cool and a lot of fun.

My wifes outfit really came together. At the last minute she decided that the giant Nerf Stampede was a little too large and awkward for her to carry around all day. So we made an on the fly decision to just use her Lara Croft guns, which I think worked out really well. The holster straps add a lot to the outfit and the guns are still reasonably large compared to her small frame.
TardisStarlord.jpg
I had the greatest reaction to my Infinity orb, a lot of people tried to comically steal it, including Michael Rooker, (damn that Yondu) A few vendors asked me a lot of questions about it hoping to replicate it either for display purposes or to sell. I even had one of the vendors offer to buy it. The Collector, pictured above, had his own orb that was just made out of a ball of aluminum foil. I didn't have the heart to take mine out. Though, at one point, I was standing around waiting for my wife for something and I noticed a little kid watching me. So, I casually reached into my sling bag and pulled out the orb. The kids eyes went super wide. I smiled at him and mimed shhhh. He was entranced, pretty cool.

Anyway, on to construction stuff...
shoulder seam.JPG
Here is one of the shoulder flaps that I sewed down. Its a little hard to tell whats going on, and it looks a lot cleaner than it actually is. Basically, I just tried to follow the seam on the flap itself, using the holes that already exist whenever possible. On the underside, I just tried to hook the needle through the top layer of leather directly under the seam line. I just tried to keep the stitching as tight as possible while keeping it straight. Probably not the strongest solution, like if you pulled hard enough, Im sure it wouldn't hold up. But I tried to reinforce it as much as possible.

Here are some pics of the method I used to holster my guns.
Holster1.JPGHolster3.JPGHolster2.JPG
This method worked really well. In the above picture is the intended set up, but I actually made them too high up on my leg, they were interfering with the jacket. So I ended up threading the loop on the inside handle to drop the guns a bit lower. You can see in the pic with the collector that they are at a bit of an angle, that was the result of having to drop them down like that. Since these arent the actual pants I will be using with the outfit long term, its no biggie. Now I know, so I can do it right the next time. However, I think I might have to get serious about purchasing a sewing machine cuz doing these by hand took about 3 hours per side.

It turned out awesome! Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. :) My con is this weekend coming up, and I hope it goes well too!

New countdown!! September 15th.

Geek Bar Chicago is hosting a pop-up event called Guardians of Gastronomy. There will be superhero themed food items and mixed drinks. Cosplayers are welcome, as there will be costume contests, etc. So, needless to say, the Wife and I will be there all suited up. My pants finally did arrive on Monday, they look pretty sweet. The kneepads, while not screen accurate definitely lend to a spacey feel and the coloring is pretty cool. Black with grey accents. Ill take some pics and post them up later. Though, Im not exactly looking forward to another six hour session of sewing my holsters on. : /

I have to thank you, after seeing your wife in costume my girlfriend committed herself to being Rocket Raccoon! You did what I've been trying to do for years, get her into costuming!

Awesome!!

For anyone interested, I will detail where I got all the pieces to my Wife's Rocket costume....

The top is from a company called Kathyana Sportswear and is available here...
http://www.beautysportswear.com/product/tank-top-orange-black/

The pants are dance pants from Aliexpress.com (these run a little small)
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Wome...irls-Harem-Hip-Hop-Dance-Sweat/830967027.html

She got her boots from Target, she got them in store. I don't see them available on their website, but they are pretty standard black leather combat-style boots. The Raccoon ears came from Amazon, it was in a set that also included a fake tail. The tail, however, looked really fake and sausage like. So she ended up getting the one seen in the pictures from the Con, itself. Though, Im sure they can be found online by searching fur tails, or some such. I believe it is actually a fox tail. The belt buckle is the same one I used for my outfit, also from Amazon.

The pistols and holsters that she is wearing in the pictures come from speedytoys.com. They don't seem to carry the guns anymore, but they probably still have the holsters. I have since found the guns from other sites like hobbytron.com. The large gun, pictured earlier in this thread, is a Nerf Stampede that I painted with matte black Krylon spray paint and silver Rub n Buff.

I think I detailed everything, if anyone needs to know any more, just let me know.

Both outfits turned out awesome!! That's great Michael Rooker tried to steal your orb :lol I've met him once and he was a great guy and I'm looking forward to meeting him again since Guardians has come out.

Looks like you guys had a really great time! Love the story of the kid watching you and then you pulling the orb out. It's moments like that that make costuming so much fun :lol

Nice! Thank you for posting the link to the items! I browsed a few pages on Amazon a few nights ago to see if I could find my girlfriend anything similar, but this is a gigantic help.

As promised here are some pics of my new pants...

The lighter material is like a stretchy nylon-like fabric. There are Velcro straps behind the knees to secure the kneepads in the right position. Overall, I like them. They have a lower profile and more form fitting design then the basic military cargos that I was using prior.
