Hey all,

We updated the site today with pics of a recent project... Ghostbusters Movie Prop Display Mr. Stay Puft Marshmallow Man

Also did a quick youtube vid showing more behind the scenes pics - Ghostbusters Prop Display - Mr. Stay Puft on Youtube!

Those following us on Facebook have had a few sneak peeks at this project.

This was a fun, but challenging display. The client had one of the original Mr. Stay Puft armatures/underskulls. As the skin was removed years ago, it looked quite different than it did in 1983! We wanted to give the piece context (and some recognizability to what he looked like on-screen) but not overshadow the valuable prop or completely cover something original, with something replica.

The solution was a 50/50 display. We sculpted a face to cover only half the skull, giving viewers a look at how it looked on-screen and the FX magic that went into bringing it to life!

More pics on the site and in the vid, so check em out!

best,
Tom

Hi Tom, that is fantastic!

It looks amazing and its great that the whole face wasnt convered.

I would give almost anything I had to own that piece!!

Am I right in saying you own an original Stay puft hand? Im sure I saw it on your site, but cant find it now. Any pics or back story? Would LOVE to hear them.

Will check the vids too

Tom forgot to ask. Did the mechanical head undergo any restoration work?

Also, did you consider scultping half the hat? That would be awsome and even more regonizable as you would be able to include the blue band and writing.

I think they would have had to use the full hat due to the way it was worn & imagine that would throw the overall look out of the half face design?

Great piece & excellent work on the display, as expected.:thumbsup

Thanks guys!

I did own a hand for a while but it's found a new home now.

And we did no restoration work to the underskull (which is mostly fiberglass and metal and in fair condition).

As for the hat, we actually planned to include that early on. But the hat is actually VERY large and also mounted entirely on the one side of his head (you'll note Mt. Stay Puft wears his hat ****** to one side). We tinkered with it a bit and realized that the weight of the hat would be too much to support on the half-face. We didn't want to permanently attach the face (or anything else) to the underskull, so we scratched the hat.

From a purely visual point of view, the hat also would've made for a really big and (visually as well as physically) awkwardly unbalanced display.

Going without the hat made for a much more balanced display and also minimized the amount of "replica" we've added for context. IMO, we've added enough that people can recognize him and understand how this piece was used, which is all that needs to be said. Any more could've overshadowed it.

best,
Tom

You guys did an amazing job on this display, Tom! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the progress on this job! Thanks for sharing, as usual!
