Ghostbusters 3 is a go! (according to the writers, director and producer)

Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

Agree to disagree.

It's not really a matter of opinion. If it isn't in production it isn't a go. Plus it's misleading to people who will think that it is in production from your title.

It doesn't matter. The fact that they're working on the script and that they're getting the cast signed. So, they are unofficially "a go" until they become officially "a go." And we could argue the finer points of what counts as production or not, but it's completely a moot point. The writers and director say its a go, so we have no choice but to take their word on it for right now (not to mention the fact they give off a date which could be either a starting date or a release date. I'm thinking its the former. And Reitman was a producer on the first two films as much as he is a director, so far, it's safe to say its "a go" for them either way).

Again, agree to disagree. Now, back to the subject at hand, which is about the next Ghostbusters film (not about if the film is a go or not, because a film being "a go" or not falls into a different category).

Well, the announcement on the front page warranted the title at the time, because at the time it was posted, that was what was announced. This was before any of the delays. Unless they're not really paying attention, they could see the original post date on both the original article and the post I made.

But, since everyone is so concerned about the title, I'll change it.

Agreen 100%
Murray needs to stop playing games and either commit or release an honest statement about why he won't.
If the man wants to spend the rest of his life playing golf, let him - there is no poblem with that.
I just hate the fact that his hesitation has held back this franchise moving forward for way too long.

Why would you think he's playing games? He said "not interested". He said "no one wants to see fat, old ghostbusters". He said when they sent the script to him, he hadn't read it. Despite the fact that he doesn't have anything really going on right now he's not signing up for a gauranteed windfall. Can't be much clearer than that.
He isn't interested but people keep throwing the question in his face, so eventually you get some half-assed, out of context "jeesus ******, just leave me the hell alone about this thing" non-commital comments, becuase if he says "no" again then 1)no one listens and the questions continue and 2)people assume he's taking a dump on his earlier work and collaborators.

If Bill Murray doesn't join , might as well forget the idea of a sequel , and go with a full reboot. That might be for the best anyway. I might rather see fresh faces than old guys trying to hang on. Maybe Murray is right.

A cameo would be nice though.

He might just sign off for that. I would be fine with him doing a cameo as a ghost, all of them could for that matter. The only way I see a new a ghostbuster film coming about a this point is a full on reboot.

What's funny, Bill is my hero with what he's pulling. If it's true that he's the one preventing any kind of confirmation on this abomination being made, then Murray's the man!

no one wants to see fat, old ghostbusters".

This is it in a nut shell. The right time for this film to be made is long gone, they're too old... I love these guys but it's true.

I'm more or less addicted to the movies, maybe on the verge of obsessed. But having GB3 get made is something I'm completely against. All of these rumors make me scared for the franchise, I just don't think they can produce anything near decent in this day-and-age.

If you want Ghostbusters 3, then let me direct your attention to this - Return of the Ghostbusters - Official site of the fan film This is a fan film made by Mr. Hank Braxtan. Over the span of 3 years he and his team made this, this nearly Hollywood grade film. It covers another Ghostbusters franchise in Denver, and recognizes the original Ghostbusters in New York. This is probably the closest and best thing we'll get as far as another Ghostbusters film.

Dude, I've seen the videos of the "Denver Ghostbusters" videos. I agree they're pretty good.

But the fact is that Part 3 should involve the previous Ghostbusters realizing that they're getting too old for the job to keep up and they're bringing in new-blood to handle the job (honestly, I'd like to see one of them being a grown up Oscar Barrett, Dana Barrett's son, which in turn due to him joining up leads Dana back into Peter's life again in their on-going on-again-off-again relationship).

If this movie ever does get made and they replace Bill Murray as the article suggests; they should go with Bruce Campell as the replacement. Hail to the King, Baby!

Or, you know, they could try to do something not trying to cash in on a thirty year old dormant property from their glory days. There's no burning questions left unanswered by either existing movie, no critical untold story.
There's no reason for a third movie to exist outside of the fact that Dan Ackroyd has been totally unable to get anything off the ground except his crappy vodak since 1984, Harold Ramis is eating it as a director so really, same for him, poor Ernie Hudson despite lots of bit work has never had the success he deserves, and Rick Moranis is pretty...available. Fanbois however will pay to see this. Murray is right - the most compelling reason to do the movie would be to give Ackroyd a decent retirement fund, so, pity. That's not a real good list of reasons to make a movie.

The first one is a classic because it's a good going-into-business story with a unique tone and some great subtle comedy. The second one was a glossy film version of the "Real Ghostbusters" cartoon, which attempted to mimic the beats of the first film with a "going-back-into-business" story (complete with imprisonment, pardon from the mayor, dickish bureaucrat, and giant figure walking down the streets of NYC at the end). It had some good jokes, but slime was a bigger character than any of the GB team.

I'd love to see GB3 if they could do it with restraint. I'd enjoy it if it could be mundane in tone for a good chunk of the movie, much like the first one was. Let the characters settle in to the screen as people before making them deal with something ridiculous. I'm afraid of garish pink slime and an over-the-top CG fest.

It seems like Ramis/Ackroyd/Reitman have lost their comedy chops while trying to imitate a more recent "Seth Rogen" brand of humor which doesn't seem to work well for them. Thank god Murray is demanding some level of quality from this thing if it's to happen at all. You know the other three would have let anything out the door.

I say it should be Ray and Egon gathering together a new team with maybe a Winston cameo,Murray doesn't want in? fine-and he's right that the original crew doing this?? ummmm,no.

It'd seem to be normal for Ray to be hosting ghost hunting classes with Egon dropping by to help (have Egon as a big shot professor at NYU for the win) then something happens that makes the two think "crap we need the Gostbusters again" but there is no way they can do it so they choose a crew from the class and show them how to handle the old gear.

It'd work I think.

This. Let it rest.

There's this pervasive notion in this culture that we must continually revisit existing franchises and stories.

You know what I say? To hell with that. Let's get some new franchises going. Let's get some new stories. Let's get some interesting ideas and different takes that don't need to rely on the crutch of some branded IP to get people to actually see them. And if your idea and execution thereof is so lousy that you can't get people to watch it in the first place, MAYBE IT SUCKED FROM THE GET GO AND THE BRAND NAME IS SIMPLE WINDOW DRESSING DESIGNED TO BRING IN THE SUCKERS.
