Ghost in the Shell "9-Weapon"

I always loved the "standard issue Big Gun" aka: getymono.

You are correct, sir. That is the technical name. It's official name is Getymono.

Re: Ghost in the Shell "9-Weapon"

Here is a legitimate, authentic mystery from Ghost in the Shell.

When the Major is checking out her "B Kit" in the abandoned museum (?), she picks up two grenades. (That seem like a light load out to me, for going up against a tank, but I digress).

Going frame by frame, some text appears on one of the grenades. It's only there for two frames.

My guess is this is someone signing their work, or making a joke, but I can't quite understand it.

It looks like English letters, almost spelling two words.

What do you see?

I make out "GNN ER GRE FE."

It's worth noting that the model sheet for the grenade shows no apparent text on it, unlike the 9mm radioactive tracer.

Tweaked the accuracy of the muzzle, but not so you'd notice. Tweaked the holes, various dimensions, added a 'mount' on the back end to attach it to the gun body. Made sure the bore was 5.7mm

I had begun work on the pistol grip last Tuesday, but I completed it this afternoon. I couldn't think of an easy way to make the fire selector rotate without breaking the grip into a couple of different pieces. For now, it's going to be static. Not sure how it was supposed to work in the film, since it's not clearly connected to anything, save that little 'bridge' that connects the fore grip to the pistol grip. And getting the knurling on there was harder than you'd think. No 'knurling wizard' to do it for you quick and easy.

For the sheer amount of work that went into the design of this gun, you don't get to see it very well on screen. All the shots are dark, it's always in shadow, the cells are black paint and black ink.... No real beauty shots...

There are some odd recesses or depressions on the forward body of the gun, that show up in the film but are not present in the otherwise meticulous blueprints. Which strikes me as odd. I guess something must have changed. Not sure if I'll include them or not.

I just checked my GIS figures to see if any had this gun but no luck, i doubt it would have helped much but you never know how accurate the guns the figures have can be.

I thought about it. That may be a little out of my league. I'll settle for a good-looking replica. I should be able to add a gun inside it after the fact, if I'm so inclined.

Thanks.

Been busy all day today! Wooo! Progress!

Built the top half, the bottom half (both of which need a lot of work), built one side plate and one sight plate.

You can use a version 3 gearbox.
What are you making it out of?

What are you using to render those models? They look a lot fancier than when I do it in Solidworks.

I'm just using Solidworks' built-in renderer, at the default settings. My first render had a material associated with it, steel of some sort.
I don't think I've scratched the surface of what the renderer could do...

Tomorrow night is Solidworks night. I actually have two small projects in mind: one of the 9-weapon grenades (which I would secretly like to fit with LEDs, though there is zero evidence for them, and they would be tactically unwise) and Togusa's radioactive tracer round. I got the replica tracer with my Mateba, but I have no idea where it is now. Sad that the best reference for the tracer round is the Mateba box art....

My primary reference, besides the blueprints, and screencaps from the film itself, is the making-of book "The Analysis of Ghost in the Shell," which is sadly Japanese only. I've had poor results OCR-ing the text and Google translating it. Does anyone know if there are other books that have better / more complete references of the model sheets? For example, while we get fairly comprehensive refs on the guns, the Major's "Unit-B" case, which is chock full of cool goodies like the 9-Weapon's bayonet(!) and grenade launcher(!), which apparently shares a sheet with the radio isotope tracer, gets a picture so small the annotations are virtually illegible, even if I could read Japanese.

HLJ is no help, since they seem to carry nothing at all from GitS 1...

Here's the model sheet in question. Translations welcome.
