Getting a leather texture in clay

What's the preferred method? I'm sculpting a mask and I want the texture of leather. I've heard (and tried) an orange peel, but it didn't quite look right to me. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Why don't you just add the real leather later? orange peel is for skin recreation. It recreates the pores pretty well.

Just press the leather on the surface of the clay and pull off. The texture should be left behind.

You can make a texture stamp by making a small dammed area on a piece of leather and pouring in silicone or urethane rubber.

Plain old latex will work just fine too- Just find a leather texture you like, pour about a 3" circle of latex on it, let dry, peel and powder, and instant texture stamp!

Good luck!
