Geoff Peterson - Anyone?

Hello everybody.

I was looking around the Internet for Geoff Peterson related photos that I remember seeing on a website once before and couldn't remember where and came across this forum where you were asking if anybody has built there own version of Geoff.

I see in this thread that one appears to be in progress (if not finished) at this point. I have not read the entire thread just yet, but I will. I just wanted to take a moment to post my hello...oh yeah, and to let you know that I have *also* built my version of Geoff.

Ironically called the "FergyBot4000" (and am not certain if I will give him a human name just yet), I finished the initial build in October 2010 and have been upgrading things ever since.

Videos of him in action are as follows:
A Robot Skeleton in Nashville - YouTube (first public appearance in Nashville where Craig was performing that weekend)
A Robot Skeleton Speaks! - YouTube (another video in Nashville)
Robot Skeleton: Halloween Edition - YouTube (getting ready for Halloween 2011, first use of wired controller)

I should point out that in the Nashville videos, it is obvious that I am not really doing anything to control him. The wired controller that I eventually used was not finished when I drove him down to Nashville. He was just programmed to move and speak at random every few seconds. Regardless, everybody enjoyed him and the upgrades that I have made since then make him much more like Geoff than ever before. In the Halloween video, the wired controller is being used and every time I push the button, he moves neck and arm randomly and speaks one of 25 Halloween themed phrases.

In fact, my robot has one feature (not in any of these videos at the time) that Geoff does not have: multicolor eyes. I use RGB LEDs for the eyes and cycle between the seven color combinations: red, blue, green, magenta (red and blue together), yellow (red and green together), cyan (blue and green together), and white (all three together).

Anyway, I could go on for a week and a half about all the things I make this thing do, but for the sake of mankind, I won't just yet. Please let me know what you think and if you have any questions, I would love to hear them...and yes, I will answer them.

Thanks!

Hi Neil.

I was literally *thisclose* to being done over the weekend, but mother nature had other ideas. I am one of about a gazillion people without power right now. The wheelchair motors that I have implemented since my last post work nicely and I hope to have pictures and videos up as soon as I can get them.

I cannot seriously believe that the real Geoff Peterson is better lit than us.
:lol

Added a right arm yesterday. Just some bits of scrap wood and a few screws. But I now have this Geoff fully mocked up as a static display piece that is something of a conversation starter already while I work at getting the servos and metal frame built up.

I did paint the skull.
Originally I had painted it with a "pewter" spray, but it seemed too gray, so I went over it with a thing layer of white, so it's a lighter gray/off white.

Initially the skull was yellowish.

That looks great! Are you planning on painting the skull as well?

nice to see things moving along! This would be a possible new project, but knowing my luck, i'd get a real skull rather than a plastic one in the mail ;o)

Not that I need a THIRD project going, but with the recent retirement announcement, I have a urge to start a GEOFF.

Where are you all getting your skeletons? Gotta figure this out somehow.
