General Doctor Whoniverse Discussion

I thought the point was the save Gallifrey and destroy the Daleks? I thought the rest (memory issues, losing Gallifrey) were just side effects and things that were required to get around the "fixed point" problem.
How do you know it won't be addressed next season? Inside scoop?
 
We'll have plenty of time to wait and see. When's the next episode? September?

BTW - I'm hoping they borrow a bit from Pertwee for Capaldi's clothing style. He seems to be the type that would lend credence to a man of action's smoking jacket. I'm also hoping they tone down the sonic screwdriver usage. It's been getting a little too cure all for my taste again despite my hopes of a new prop to look less lightsaber-like than the previous.
 
I was really looking forward to the xmas special and was very disappointing, everything they could have done wrong they did.
the regeneration was...weird..I mean, fine if you want him to have a farewell speech while he's young then leave him young! nobody said that for a war to counted as a "war" it needs to be a 300 year one...
even a year would be too much.
Amy at the end was unnecessary...and when he finally regenerated into capaldi...that was some lazy effects there, smith went off camera then it's capaldi with a glowing face and we're done...
the whole 5-7 seasons were very childish...I really think moffat should leave.

problem is, moffat is so full of himself he will never quit, if it's up to him he will run the show for another 50 years.

I don't have cable and have been falling way behind. Finally get Hulu Plus, only to find they don't have anything more recent than the 2012 xmas special.

WHAT GIVES, HULU?!?

Just to play Devil's advocate here... all of you do realize that Moff has been showrunner during the period where Doctor Who has gained unprecedented mainstream appeal... the $4m gross for the Monday night theater showing of "Day of the Doctor" is evidence of that.

Love him or hate him, I don't think that Moffat is driving the franchise to the ground so to speak...

I tend to agree. Though as stated previously he sometimes has a tendency to put too many threads into one episode, overall I like the ideas he comes up with and he deserves credit for making the show very appealing world wide. :thumbsup
 
I'll agree that Moffat is certainly creative and good with twists, but I feel he works better when he has someone to oversee/reign-in his tendency to chuck everything into the story and leave plot-points dangling for over two years.

I think that's true of any creative person. Personally I hate the "everything but the kitchen sink" trend that most finales have had since the birth of the new series.

Moffat's biggest weakness has always been his third act. He builds well but then it seems he realizes that there's only 10 mins left in the show so he winds things up in a rush.

I thought the drumming was a nice touch. It was the "thinking about the Doctor magically makes him win the day" crap that made me roll my eyes! :lol

You probably don't believe that the audience clapping will save Tinkerbell either.

Something I noticed while binge watching classic Who: the stories were longer. Each episode was just over 20 minutes not counting credits and a reminder of what happened in the previous episode and the stories were four or more episodes long.
