General Doctor Whoniverse Discussion

Me thinks the new companion is going to be a younger River Song....

Wasn't young River Song hellbent on killing the doctor? She didn't come out of the brainwashing until later.

Moffat said who she is would set the show on it's ear or something like that. Being young River I don't think that'd happen.

Now that i'm into the classic who fairly far I can toss out a couple that usually would make me think who the heck is that :)

Romana
Susan
And his daughter from the Tennant episode.

I've also wondered about his son or daughter from I guess before the show started...If Susan is his granddaughter, then there must have been a son or daughter first....

Yeah, we've seen the Alpha and Omega of River Song (not to say we couldn't see more, but it's probably not her.

What if it was....

The Doctor's MOTHER! That could actually be a funny episode or two... The Doctor's mother (younger looking than he is), but I think it would get old pretty quick.

As a long time Who fan, I really hope this next season rocks...

As for changing the Doctor to a woman.....

Not a fan of that idea. It would change the whole dynamic of the show, and they would be clearly doing it for shock value.....

:thumbsdown

If they want that, add a female Timelord to the mix. Don't change the Doctor,. One of the things I liked about Romana was that she was/was treated as an equal for the most part. The doctor took the lead on the other worlds as he had boatloads of experience to her none, but in the Tardis, they were equals, and you could argue she was superior in the technical areas.

I wish they'd bring back Lady Christina de Souza with the flying bus from the "Planet of the Dead" episode. Hot hot hot!

As long as they keep her in the skin tight outfit without underwear I'm all for it. The actress that played her was #2 choice to play Rose. What a different show it would have been.

If they were to do it, it'd be nice if they had set past precedent of another time-lord doing the same thing.

They covered that base in "The Doctor's Wife". According to the Doctor, the Corsair had that tattoo in every regeneration...even the one as a woman.

I think it's a horrible idea though. Beyond the purely ridiculous nature of a race that can change sexes (think on that for a while), I mean just what would Susan call the Doctor if she ran into 'her'? Would ol' Thete' still be "Grandfather", or can we change relations based upon regenerations? It would change the show's dynamic and feel in a wholly undesirable way. :thumbsdown

Agreed! In fact, why not bring back Romana? Being trapped in a parallel dimension, it wouldn't be too hard to argue that she escaped the time lock after the last great time war.

I finally feel like i'm 'in' now :) There was such a long time i'd read a comment like that and think 'WTH does that mean? Who's Romana?' and now that I know, it all makes sense - finally :)

A note about the tattoo. In an old Jon Pertwee episode he had a tattoo on his forearm. I can't remember what it was but it would be cool if the Doctor still had it.

It was his naval service tattoo. Cannon usually ignores it but fan fiction makes fun of it with him looking at it in annoyance because some Time Lord thought it would help him blend in with the primitive Earthlings.

That tattoo is pretty obvious in his first episode - especially when he's hiding in the shower and picking out his new clothes. It made a few other appearances as well.

Sounds like the fan fiction has good fun with it :)

It is interesting that they point out that the other timelord had it in every generation and ignore the fact it was on 3 the whole time.

I love the idea of the snake tattoo as criminal tattoo. Fandom at it's best ret-conning an odd continuity clanger!
