General Doctor Whoniverse Discussion

I don't know if this has been brought up before, but here I go anyway. Was watching "The Girl Who Waited" again, for screengrabs and such for my daughters costume. Now, I like Amy and all, but hearing her whine and complain how Rory did not save her (I know most of her anger was aimed at The Doctor), and she was there for almost 40 years......................boo fricken hoo! Did she forget that Rory waited for um.............2000 years, without sleeping? Amy needs to be smacked with a sock filled with perspective!:behave

So, rumors that the Olympic ceremonies did have a visual Doctor Who reference to go along with the audio appear to be true. Check out 8:10 in the screen in the back. Hard to see but they show all the doctors.

Too bad they scrapped it.

That should be fun. Really hope that they do a better job this year - 2010 special was amazing, 2011 not so much.

BBC have commissioned a Mark Gatiss drama about the genesis of Doctor Who for the 50th anniversary.

This is really cool - Gatiss is a good writer, and he understands Who, but for some reason his scripts for the show itself haven't managed to quite work. He talked about this idea in an interview years back, it seemed really interesting. After a lot of other behind-the-scenes-of-the-show dramas like Steptoe and Hancock, seems like a good choice to go ahead with this one.

If memory serves, the dramatic hook was going to be Hartnells ill-health, and his sadness at having to give up the role. Be fantastic to see reacreations of things like the classic TARDIS set.

A drama that really delves into the history of Who would certainly be interesting to watch, but if the BBC don't give us a multi-doctor, feature-length adventure to celebrate then I, for one, will be disappointed.

All signs point firmly to "yes" on that.
Now, granted, it might not be Dimensions in Time 2, with a bunch of old guys dressed up in costumes that don' t fit them anymore, but good odds we'll get at least something with Tennant and Matt Smith, and some cool cameos here and there. IMHO Timecrash was one of the better episodes of New Who, so I'm hopeful.

Holy hell.

I read a report last week that said Tom Baker as asked to make an appearance on the show for the 50th anniversary.

I'd also like to see McGann involved in the anniversary, too.

Not sure how well you could do an 8 doctors episode even if was 2 hours long. That's a LOT of doctor's :) If you had 3-4 hours....that'd be something else entirely. Not to mention very much appreciated :)

Tom (not being unfair) is looking rather different these days. On the one hand I'd love to see him back on screen, but I'm not sure they could get away with the same excuse they used for Peter Davidson looking a little older. After all, Tom's hair is now a rather dashing white.
Maybe if they used some Hollywood CGI trickery to have him act, but overlay him with a younger version? So long as the story is good, though.
