General Doctor Whoniverse Discussion

I'm sure they will think of a way to get around the 12 regeneration rule, probably use the fact he absorbed all the Time Vortex/TARDIS energies to save Rose a while back, causing his regeneration to the 10th Doctor.

I'm surprised the series is not yet coming to an end soon, especially since the Doctor (from what I recall reading) is near the end of his ability to regenerate (I read somewhere, when I was younger, that Timelords were only able to regenerate about 13 times within their lifetime, and the Doctor is on his 11th one now).

The Doctor has been "more than just a Timelord" since the Cartmell Plan days. I'm sure there are no limits to him any longer. I can imagine his initial terror when he regenerates into his 14th self and realizes that he actually is an immortal of sorts.

its probably somewhere along the face of bo lvl

he was immortal due to the time vortex resurrection, and this will be the same reason for the doctor.

I agree. When the time comes and it is necessary to do so - they will find a way past 13. I think they already touched upon that in an Episode of the Sarah Jane Adventures. However, we don't need to worry about that for a while.

Speaking of the future, Moffat gives two pieces of good news in this clip. At least 14 eps this year...

...and something big up his sleeve for 2013

Let's not forget that Tennant essentially regenerated TWICE before becoming the Matt Smith Doctor. So really, there's no reason in worrying how many times he regenerates at this point as long as they don't get cheeky with it like how Romana regnerated 5 times in the first 5 minutes before going to Lala Ward.

I could have sworn that at some point in the series "Five Doctors" maybe, that they stated the the number of regenerations was a time lord enforced rule. They apparently had the ability to give the Master a full new life cycle (I would think the Master would know if they had the ability to do that or not) for rescuing the doctors from the "Dead Zone".

Would the regeneration limit still count with Gallefry gone?

It depends on if it's an enforced limit from outside the individual Time Lords biodata or if it's written in to the genecode like blue eyes or high blood pressure tendencies.

That and also with the Doctor having been about so long, exposed to so much and been effected by so many things his own biodata is half scrambled. Anything's possible. Case in point; it is BBC Cannon that the 8th Doctor is half human but the rest aren't.

The Time Lords gave the Master a new regeneration cycle after resurrecting him to fight in the Time War. When the time comes they'll either handwave it with "It was a rule, but since there's no one around to enforce it..." or he finds a rock that gives him unlimited regenerations or say he was given a bunch of extras during the Time War.

If the show is still making money for the BBC it will continue past the 13th Doctor. I find it absurd to think they'll stop due to line written decades ago.

Actually I hope his 13th regen, if it happens, will be a total horror and shock to him and he spends the first part of his 14th life trying to figure out what is wrong with him, why his body stopped following the rules and panicking that he may be immortal because what thrill is there in risking your life is there actually is no risk to it?

Two of the biggest sci-fi titles of all-time — Doctor Who and Star Trek: The Next Generation — will join forces in their first officially commissioned comic-book crossover. Released by IDW Publishing, Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimilation2 will launch in May. In the eight-issue series, the Doctor and his companions will team up with Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise against an unholy alliance between the Borg and the Cybermen. Scott and David Tipton, the authors behind Star Trek: Infestation, will be assisted by Doctor Who writer Tony Lee, with artwork by J.K. Woodward.

Meh...I don't know about mixing the genres. I'll buy it (first comic I'll have bought in decades), but I have misgivings about the premise. I will admit, I'm curious to see how the Borg/Cybermen thing will be done. I would think they'd fight between them to assimilate eachother. ;)
