A) Good god I hate the word "fandom" :lol

B) It's a fantastic offering. Just not what the fans (that I've heard) were hoping for. I'd be happy with the normal 13 ep season but having an arcing story that encompasses all the Doctors.

That's just the dream. I still think it'll be good. :)
 
Yep. All I care about is the quality. if we only got the regular 13 eps and they were stellar quality i'd be really happy.

As it is, I have high hopes for this docu-drama. The BBC has done some really fantastic ones in the last few years looking at the real lives of BBC stars (the "Morcambe and Wise" one was outstanding) so this alone is worth the wait for me.
 
I just re-watched Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead. The little girl, CAL, bears quite a resemblance to the current sorta companion. I wonder if that's coincidence or not.

I'd say coincidence. Afterall, Martha Jones looked a lot like that Torchwood worker. ;)

-Second half of a season that has nothing to do with the anny
-One episode devoted to the 50th anny
-A documentary
-A mini documentary of each doctor

Not trying to be a PITA but, that's fairly minimal. The only thing that takes any real effort and money is the one episode. Maybe they go big time on the main documentary, but I doubt it.

On the 20th anny DVD there is a documentary. Plus, it was a 90 minute episode featuring 4 doctors.

If the above is all we get, looks like they did more for the 20th anny than the 50th. How many shows ever see a 50th? That's a huge deal. Doesn't seem like they're treating it as huge with the above listing.

That could change, though, they could announce more, or maybe the 2nd half of the 2012 season has a lot more secret stuff in it like Episode 1 and the xmas special. It remains to be seen. But aside from surprises, what they've announced doesn't sound overly special at this point and for 50 years, it should be. Just my .02.
 
I have a feeling there's more to come.

I tell ya what they're not skimping on...50th anniversary merch! It's killing my wallet and we haven't even really begun.
 
Remember this is Moffat in charge. The man who kept a massive reveal and twist completely spoiler free. It's entirely possible he's fooling us into not expecting much for the 50th and then he'll go all out.
 
The first of the doctor specials airs tonight. They said they were 25 minutes long, but BBCA has it on for THREE hours. That's quite a ways off 25 minutes....

True, the guy makes JJ Abrams and team seem like a bunch of blabbermouths by comparison. I'm expecting to be totally blown out of the water by the 50th.

Expecting to be blown away is a surefire way to guarantee you'll be disappointed IMO. I will try to go into it with no expectations.
 
Cool to see Ian again. Odd that the only other people to talk about the original were all the current production team, Tennant and Barrowman.

Barrowman on the Gunslingers was great :)

Seems like moffatt at least was holding that up as a good episode??? Thank god the song didn't get stuck in my head! Does anyone actually hold that episode in even medium regard? :)

Seems like the final 2.5 hours are the airing of 'The Aztecs'. I think that's a nice touch. Wonder when the next one is. Not in the next two weeks according to the DTV guide.

Oh, and it said the next episode of Doctor Who airs March 30th. So, last was christmas, next is easter :)
 
Also, he was Solomon in a previous episode. ;)

IIRC there were people saying he looked like he could be the first Doctor.
 
It will be interesting to see how much he attempts to replicate Hartnell and how much he will try to be original with the character. I'm looking forward to it as I consider myself a fan of that incarnation. Hell, I'm a fan of all of the incarnations.
 
Just got my 5" 11 doctor's set in. Pretty sweet if I do say so myself. Will look good on the who section of my wall when I get around to re-arranging it to fit more stuff :) Would've been a mega awesome deal too if not for shipping from the uk (got it for 35 pounds!)
 
Yeah, that's a good price. Still have not opened mine...which is weird because I am definitely not a "keep in box" collector. If you're ever thinking about getting more stuff from UK, let me know. We could split shipping.

It wasn't really planned, but i'll keep you in mind :)

I saw it while looking at the 12" tennant above. I remembered I saw it on amazon nearly a year ago and marked it because it was like 80 bucks on amazon. When I went to look, it had jumped to 140. I figured i'd look around and everywhere i looked was about the same price or not in stock. I came across one in the UK and it said 49 pounds. Exchange rate was favorable enough so I went for it. Upon adding it to cart, it fell to 35. Worked out nicely :)
