General Doctor Whoniverse Discussion

So what is the story going to be. The Doctor has Osborn stand in the console room and then calls each incarnation one at a time to shake her hand?

This made me :lol

Ya, I think we were all pretty sure it wouldn't be an episode with all of the Doctors although it would be awesome to see.

Agree that 3D just doesn't do it for me. I'll be seeing it regularly.

Unless they're holding back, seems like they put more effort into the 20th anniversary than the 50th.

Then getting screwed on not just the anny episode by the episodes for the calendar year is just the icing on the cake. 8-9 whole episodes for the year?? The show's supposedly never been more popular than it is today, so by all means, lets give 'em as little as possible....

Unfortunately the reasoning behind it is because of small budgets due to a craptacular economy. Just remember that if this was a Scy-fy, scifi or whatever the frak it is now it would have been cancelled to make room for more wrestling and infomercials. At least BBC isn't showing any sign that they are looking to cancel our beloved Doctor.

They'd be foolish, I can't imagine the air another show that brings them more money. They're pulling it in in merchandising now more than ever, and able to sell to many more foreign markets at higher rates and even running their own for profit networks using it (like BBCA).

You can count the number of scripted shows that get to a 50th anniversary on one hand, and possibly one finger. That's a situation that you'd expect would be a pull out all the stops one.

Well, that's more than the SIX we got last year!

Yeah, that makes no sense. That's like Disney saying they're going to close Disney World to focus on Euro Disney.

I think it has a LOT more to do with Moffet's schedule. He doesn't have time to dedicate to it and he doesn't want to give up the helm.

Just watched an interview with Moffat that was recorded at Gallifrey One, & as the interviewer was listing off the episodes we were getting this year, Moffat said, "Don't believe the rubbish about one 60 minute anniversary show."

Gave me a little more hope anyways.

...and as a 'What If?' question... When I saw that they have cast Troughton for the Gatiss docudrama, I wondered if this was a way to cover up casting stand-ins for the Doctors that are no longer with us for an appearance in the 50th. Only reason I was thinking this is because I thought the Gatiss show was only supposed to cover getting the first episode on the air. Just food for speculation.

I would love for you to be correct on this. Does make you wonder why they'd cast for a Second Doctor if it's only about the early days.
Would have been über cool if they could have cast David Troughton to play his dad, but unfortunately he's a fair bit taller and longer in the face than the 'galactic hobo' was :lol.
Still, I've been keeping an eye on the casting, and the ladies seem well chosen, particularly Susan and Barbara.

I think his age would be more of a problem. Height can be faked on camera and I think his face has enough resemblance to pull it off provided the rest is perfect (hair, costume, voice, mannerisms).

I'd love to see it happen but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Well, it's still early days with the Second. :p

As for River, that's been covered on the series 6 DVD's as extra scenes. I hope we get a bit more of her still, she shouldn't vanish just because Amy and Rory have.

Happily, there's already talk of series 8 currently being planned! :D Let's hope they get back to doing full series again, or maybe serializing them.

Wasn't "the rubbish" and official BBC press release?

Her bag appears to be a TARDIS with a working chameleon circuit.
