General Doctor Whoniverse Discussion

Somehow I seriously doubt it... But it would be cool!

Replacing Hartnell in The 5 Doctors wasn't a big deal but for me they had better tread lightly with Troughton & Pertwee...

Damn, that gave me goosebumps!

I just hope it's a rather LONG episode, 3 hours min. Hard to work in all 11 in much less. The five, err, four doctors clocking in a 90 minutes for 4 guys was about right IMO. I still hope it's something along a 10-11 part episode arc. I doubt it, but you can dream :)

Considering how far "Gump Tech" software has become (think Golum from LoTR) they should be able to CGI model the dearly departed previous Doctors as well as lend a helping hand to those who no longer resemble their characters. The trick will be properly casting the live body doubles. I say Sean Pertwee is over due to fill his father's shoes.

Speaking of...I've been keeping a secret hope that if there is a final incarnation the younger Pertwee is cast in the role.

Well, Moffat does have an extra 14 million laying around! Since we only got half of series 7 last year and the other half of series 7 this year, the money on series 8 can all go to the 50th anniversary. I was hoping for at least a 6 to 8 episode arc for it.

Agreed. That kind of thing is begging for a whole season arc!!!

The tech still isn't there. Recall how fake Jeff Bridges looked in Tron Legacy? Now factor in that the BBC doesn't have anywhere near that kind of budget.

It worked well with Golum because it didn't have to replicate anything, just be that animated character.

I sincerely hope there are no CG Doctors.

I would buy David Troughton as #2 though. He's got his dad's look & sound. He could play an older version of him (like in the Two Doctors).

Agreed! I would love to see the Second Doctor portrayed on screen again, he is definitely becoming a favorite of mine, possibly my favorite classic Doctor, over all tied with Eccleston who is my favorite New series Doctor. :)

Also I had a chance to listen to the audio book version of Planet of Ice with David Troughton narrating, he does definitely sound like his father, and look like it as well from when I saw his cameo role in the school reunion episode of Tennant's run. :cool

Hands down my favourite Doctor was number 2. :thumbsup

I doubt we'll get CG Doctors, I cannot believe they would even try it to be honest, like you say its still beyond Hollywood so the BBC wouldn't be able to pull it off. David Troughton would be wonderful and perhaps Sean Pertwee?

Sean might be able to pull it off sure. :thumbsup

Can he do the voice at all? I haven't seen much with him in it.

Answering my own question. Did a youtube search and he's definitely close enough. Lose a couple pounds, put him in a wig, I think we have a winner for #3!

That just leaves Hartnell and he's the easiest to replace. :)

Oh, and somehow convincing #9 to come back...

The official press release does not bode well for a lot of DW this year. Let's hope there's more to come besides this:

Series 7 Part 2 (8 Episodes / Spring 2013)
50th Anniversary Special (1 x 60 minutes / Autumn 2013)
An Adventure in Space and Time (1 x 90 minutes / Autumn 2013)
Doctor Who Revisited (11 x 25 minutes / throughout year)

Well 'time crash' with 5&10 was less than 10minutes, and for me that was some of the best 'multi doctor' Who ever?

One more thing 'the five doctors' was 90 minutes long and that worked rather well, plus we may see build up to the anniversary episode throughout the episodes that air beforehand.

I'm still not convinced we'll get a multi-doctor episode - any previous Doctors/companions will be in retrospective-style specials.

I'm also not convinced they would be able to pull it off even if they wanted to (with a decent story I mean).

No multi-doctor episode(s) means they're likely going to have a big ole dud of a 50th anniversary.

They know that's what every single fan wants, hell, damn near expects. I'd swear there's an interview with moffatt where he says they've got a lot planned for a the anniversary. The above press release would be minimal effort at best.

I can't believe some people are calling this a lacklustre offering. Some fandoms would be happy just to get a movie out of an anniversary.
