General Doctor Whoniverse Discussion

What surprised me most in his cybermen episode was the gory head shot killing one of the cybermen. Contrast that with the super cheesy death scene in (i think) Tomb of the Cybermen during Troughtman's run where there was apparently worry that the soap suds coming out of killed cyberman's body was just way too gruesome. They did end up airing it, but that head shot was a surprise - you even saw robot brains shoot out the back of his head :)

As the kids say... FTW! :D

Just a question with the new season starting up. Have we seen the battle in the Gamma forrest that caused the name Doctor to get associated with "Great Warrior"?

I went back and watched "Forest of the Dead" thinking it may tie in there somewhere but did not find anything. Is that maybe in a future episode? Did I miss something?

Demons run when a good man goes to war
Night will fall and drown the sun
When a good man goes to war

Friendship dies and true love lies
Night will fall and the dark will rise
When a good man goes to war

Demons run, but count the cost
The battle's won, but the child is lost

One of the best episodes ever!

I cant believe I am just now finding this thread (even though I only recently started using therpf). Are you guys excited for Asylum of the Daleks? Im glad they arent using those ugly daleks that are all brightly colored, cant remember the name of them.

Doctor Who: heartfelt thanks to all the journalists, bloggers, and forum members who kept our little secret for tonight. You are the best! "

I've seen nothing but classic episodes since last years xmas special and then last night caught the Big Bang II episode on BBCA. Gotta say I was very taken aback by the modern console room. Obviously i've seen it many times before, but after staring at the the classic one for 6 doctor's worth of episodes, it was quite a jarring change, even though I knew it was coming :)

Three hours to go...

Got my dvr set up to record the new season. I absolutely love Amy and Rory and I flatly refuse to miss a moment of their final season... :cry

Some interesting moments in this one, I think certain things will only make sense later in the series.
Would have been nice if the older Dalek styles had more screen time, especially after making such a big thing of having them in the episode.

That was pretty cool.

Doc-tor Who?
Doc-tor Who?
Doc-tor Who?

I think we'll be seeing Oswin (sp?) again somehow.

Did they get the #NewToWho commercial in the UK? That was pretty funny. "Is Ood singular or Plural?........It's Both."

I thought the episode was ok. I think all the publicity built the episode up too much, as I don't feel it lived up to the hype.

At least they did away with the horrible Amy monologue/opening. :rolleyes

The actress is playing the new companion, so yeah we'll see her again. The companion is named Jenna Oswin (Ozwin?) though, so probably not the same character.

Very cool episode. I get the feeling that the Daleks forgetting about the Doctor is tied to the question that must not be answered. It'll be interesting to see how the Daleks not remembering the Doctor will be such a bad thing.

Moffat is supposedly going to be giving the Daleks a rest as they have been over-used in the new series. I think the quote I read says they are "the most defeated opponent in the universe"...or something like that.

The Weeping Angels have supplanted the Daleks and Cybermen in my eyes as the most fearsome opponents the Doctor has faced.

I think that quote is in reference to why the Daleks weren't in the previous season. It was the first season of the relaunch to not feature them.

And really, how are you going to set up that "Doctor Who?" is the question that must not be answered and they have every freaking Dalek shouting it at the Doctor? Conservation of detail demands they're connected.
