General Doctor Who Props Discussion Thread

Re: General Doctor Who Props Discussion Thread, Discuss ANY DW Props Made by ANYONE!!

Heres my K-9, my only Who Prop that I built. I have a thread on here on his build progress:

RISU: Where in the world did you acquire the space helmet?

Re: General Doctor Who Props Discussion Thread, Discuss ANY DW Props Made by ANYONE!!

Wazoo: I was digging through my fabric bins yesterday and came across the brown lambskin I intend to use and got all excited about it again. I just need to order zenix's buckle, new oval buttons, the correct snaps, and a buckle bar with prong (probably easiest to salvage it from another watch) and I'll be ready to go. Finding out that my sewing machine can handle thin leather was a revelation. :cool

IronCostumer: No progress on the mirror matcher. I wasn't able to get my Paul Smith shirt recut and my correct fabric Donegal jacket made in time for my November event, so I'm putting off the build to free up time for other things (diaries, Halloween, Cyberman, manipulators, maybe the squareness gun finally). I intend to finish it in time for Gallifrey in February, along with my Cyberman.

CGClone: Northern Ireland. I purchased it from the original manufacturer with the help of a friend over there and he mailed it over to me. My space suit is 95% done, I should really just set aside an evening and finish the darn thing to motivate myself to mod the helmet. I got 99 projects.....

@Risu - ...I'll be in my bunk. LOL!

Anxiously waiting to hear/see the results, Risu!!! :love

BTW...were you able to locate any better snaps than the ones we discussed?

Re: General Doctor Who Props Discussion Thread, Discuss ANY DW Props Made by ANYONE!!

I'm still not sure if Risu's talking about a 10 coat or a Mal coat but it's gonna be awesome either way!

Re: General Doctor Who Props Discussion Thread, Discuss ANY DW Props Made by ANYONE!!

Risu, is it hard to acquire said helmet? Hmmmmm? LOL excited to see your suit!

Re: General Doctor Who Props Discussion Thread, Discuss ANY DW Props Made by ANYONE!!

All the better then!

Unless he plans on wearing a home made vortex manipulator with a 10 coat which is under a Mal Coat. That would be Epic quantities of Awesome...and a lizard.

Re: General Doctor Who Props Discussion Thread, Discuss ANY DW Props Made by ANYONE!!

Woah, woah, overload! Haha. Already got my ten coat, and my Mal coat is on hold probably until deer evolve slightly larger so that the price of deer hides large enough to make the coat get lower.

CGClone: The helmet would be easy to get if you live in the UK, but they don't sell them overseas. Luckily I've got an awesome friend over there that had them ship it to him. They are ridiculously expensive, though. I do have plans to mold it and do a run once I've finished the basic mods (all the extra body pieces, light mount, and raised sections, but no tubes) but it'll be a long time before I get there.

Bootlegger: I'm pretty sure the ones I'm going with were one of the ones you tracked down. I can't quite remember off the top of my head. One of the side effects of working on so many projects at once is that I lose all ability to remember anything about any of them ever.

Well, make it easy on yourself and work on one project at a time...starting with the Vortex Manipulator first, and then go from there! (y)lol

Re: General Doctor Who Props Discussion Thread, Discuss ANY DW Props Made by ANYONE!!

Unfortunately, my deadlines dictate what I'm working on. I've got 5 projects with Halloween deadlines, then I can think about the manipulators. But I might go ahead and place my order for the parts now. Just have to dig up those snaps.

OK, done. All parts ordered. Thanks man, now I have to resist the urge to put together a 4th new costume for Gallifrey next year.

(I have been following this forum for some time, but only joined today; Saturday 17th September 2011. I saw this thread and was itching to comment. I'll try to make an introduction later on.)

I am a die-hard Doctor Who fan from the 1980s (and I have been loving the 2005 to present revival).

I am into the Doctor Who roleplaying games and own several copies of the three published ones, as well as supplements, miniatures, dice, etc, as well as other RPGs such as Serenity, GURPS 4th edition, Victoriana 2nd edition, Star Trek, etc. Anyway, I digress.

A few years back, I started collecting Doctor Who inspired LARP props and have built up a nice collection of items. I haven't made any, but they are nice, all the same...

Replica TARDIS keys (the Pertwee shield design), replica TARDIS keys (Yale key design), Sonic Screwdrivers (several 9th Dr design and several sets of the build-your-own-sonic-screwdriver sets), replica Star Trek communicator (looks like a futuristic gadget), replica Nano Recorders, replica Fords Theater Opera Glasses (the same as the 9th Drs), Yo-Yos, packets of Basset's Jelly Babies and paper bags, 3D goggles (same as the 10th Drs), small brass Abacus, assorted money in drawstring bags, replica psychic paper in a passport wallet, pocket watch on a chain, a stethoscope, replica UNIT ID cards (3rd & 4th Drs), marbles and jacks, jewellers' eye loupes, compass, harmonica, dosimeters, leatherbound notepad (nicely old fashioned and handmade), emergency energy rations (tubes of vitamin and mineral supplements that I found on eBay; look like futuristic rations), replica ACME whistle (as used on the Titanic), Emergency Food Blocks (carbohydrate survival food in foil packets; looks a bit like TARDIS Food Machine food), replica historical newspapers, playing cards, teaspoons (the 7th Drs musical instruments!), toothbrush, plastic banana (inspired by the 9th Dr), Bosuns calls, flint and steel firelighter, juggling balls, spinning tops, etc.

Some of these items are replica Dr Who items, others are inspired by objects that the Doctor has taken out of his pockets over the years, and others are fun additions that I have enclosed (such as the spinning tops).

I also have a replica of the 4th Doctors long, multi-coloured scarf, but that is just a collectors item and not something I wear. (Honest!)

This web page was an inspiration...

From A to 7Q - the Doctor's gadgets

...as well as all the times the Doctor emptied his pockets.

I keep meaning to take a decent photo of them all.

Whoo hoo!

FINALLY a thread that I don't feel completely intimidated by.

I give you the Lady Cassandra. She's sized smaller since my partner (on Lady Cassandra's right) is quite short and we didn't want Cassandra to be looming over her, but I've been quite proud of how she came out. We tested her at several cons and dubbed her finished back in 2010.

Somewhere I have a web page detailing all the hilarious details of building her (like her eyes are simply painted plastic spoons and her brain "floats" by simply sitting on top of an empty peanut butter jar). If there's any interest I'll troll through my assorted websites and find it for you all.

Re: General Doctor Who Props Discussion Thread, Discuss ANY DW Props Made by ANYONE!!

I will soon be getting some water pistols from Fire of Pompeii episode. Will probably keep one for myself and sell the other. So keep an eye out!

Re: General Doctor Who Props Discussion Thread, Discuss ANY DW Props Made by ANYONE!!

I know WarMachine has been looking for a solid year fora water pistol, you should shoot him a PM.

Re: General Doctor Who Props Discussion Thread, Discuss ANY DW Props Made by ANYONE!!

Just made my 1st Doctor Who prop, just thought I'd share! I found all the stuff on an old circuit board I've been keeping. Pretty surprised to see several of the correct diodes. Need to find the correct size wire, but close enough.
