Re: General Doctor Who Props Discussion Thread, Discuss ANY DW Props Made by ANYONE!!
(I have been following this forum for some time, but only joined today; Saturday 17th September 2011. I saw this thread and was itching to comment. I'll try to make an introduction later on.)
I am a die-hard Doctor Who fan from the 1980s (and I have been loving the 2005 to present revival).
I am into the Doctor Who roleplaying games and own several copies of the three published ones, as well as supplements, miniatures, dice, etc, as well as other RPGs such as Serenity, GURPS 4th edition, Victoriana 2nd edition, Star Trek, etc. Anyway, I digress.
A few years back, I started collecting Doctor Who inspired LARP props and have built up a nice collection of items. I haven't made any, but they are nice, all the same...
Replica TARDIS keys (the Pertwee shield design), replica TARDIS keys (Yale key design), Sonic Screwdrivers (several 9th Dr design and several sets of the build-your-own-sonic-screwdriver sets), replica Star Trek communicator (looks like a futuristic gadget), replica Nano Recorders, replica Fords Theater Opera Glasses (the same as the 9th Drs), Yo-Yos, packets of Basset's Jelly Babies and paper bags, 3D goggles (same as the 10th Drs), small brass Abacus, assorted money in drawstring bags, replica psychic paper in a passport wallet, pocket watch on a chain, a stethoscope, replica UNIT ID cards (3rd & 4th Drs), marbles and jacks, jewellers' eye loupes, compass, harmonica, dosimeters, leatherbound notepad (nicely old fashioned and handmade), emergency energy rations (tubes of vitamin and mineral supplements that I found on eBay; look like futuristic rations), replica ACME whistle (as used on the Titanic), Emergency Food Blocks (carbohydrate survival food in foil packets; looks a bit like TARDIS Food Machine food), replica historical newspapers, playing cards, teaspoons (the 7th Drs musical instruments!), toothbrush, plastic banana (inspired by the 9th Dr), Bosuns calls, flint and steel firelighter, juggling balls, spinning tops, etc.
Some of these items are replica Dr Who items, others are inspired by objects that the Doctor has taken out of his pockets over the years, and others are fun additions that I have enclosed (such as the spinning tops).
I also have a replica of the 4th Doctors long, multi-coloured scarf, but that is just a collectors item and not something I wear. (Honest!)
This web page was an inspiration...
From A to 7Q - the Doctor's gadgets
...as well as all the times the Doctor emptied his pockets.
I keep meaning to take a decent photo of them all.
