General Doctor Who Props Discussion Thread

Re: General Doctor Who Props Discussion Thread, Discuss ANY DW Props Made by ANYONE!!

I wonder if there's something along the lines of shrink wrap that emulates copper?
last night while I was at Hobby Lobby, I found something close to this, it's a very thin sheet of Aluminum that can be applied but, it looked a little janky so I went with the Leafing liquid.

the rub n buff stuff wasnt there but they did have this stuff called precious metals leafing finish, and it's water based, goes on well and dries extremely fast

if you could center your symbol,
flip "11th Doctor"
and make that "SONIC SCREWDRIVER"
and the C on doctor kinda looks like an R?
could just be me though,

but I like where your heads at :)
I'd definitely hang that in my display case

Personally I would think "Sonic Screwdriver" would be larger than the "11th Doctor" just my 2 cents. If you ever do a 4th and 10th Doctor's screwdriver plaques, i'd love to have those displayed with my russ and mfx sonic respectively. Goodness i want me an 11th doc sonic in metal....T_T

Agreed, it's simple, but stylish... I get the theming of including the Police Box signs on the other layout, but I feel they clutter the design.

MANY thanks to you for suggesting the Leafing approach, the finishes are pretty delicious. :)

The pictures dont really do much justice, they shine pretty well and the feel is pretty cold, I like them alot.

The C/O screwdriver I took all the way apart and got into it pretty well with the Leaf, and then the Screwdriverx2 was just an application to the top since it really only comes in two pieces... but some clever masking did the trick!

my next steps for both is the additional leather for the grips, and then on the C/O Sonic, I'll be looking for a translucent white glaze to give the appearance of Jade on the emitter.

how did you do the leafing? what did you use? thanks:)

@ehwwong, what font did you use for 11th doctor sonic screwdriver? plaque looks awesome.

Hello,

I'm new to the comunity but figured I'd post my latest creation where it's applicable. I was invited to participate in a scarecrow costume group at DragonCon 2011 and I selected the Scarecrow from the "Human Nature"/"Family of Blood" episode of Doctor Who.

I started with aluminum mesh from the craft store and hot-glued on the burlap after I formed the basic shape. I stitched more burlap with a big needle and twine and then my friend Shellhead did a great job painting and weathering. My other friend Foe helped make the shirt and it all seemed to come together after making the gloves and used blonde wigs for the cornsilk from the wrists.

My first major costuming interest after Ghostbusters has ended up being Doctor Who, and thanks to a couple of friends who costume as the Doctor (10th, and 5th respectively) I tasked myself with the challenge of assembling a replica of the 7th Doctor's costume and significant hand prop (his question-mark handle umbrella):

(Old photo, I've since gotten a properly knitted question-mark pullover, the one pictured was achieved with marker pens! A panama hat with a more accurate size of brim and the correct style of handkerchief for the pocket)

The costume assembly also presented me with my first experiences with molding and manipulating acrylic rod, which was a bit daunting, if not for the excellent tutorial on Youtube by DrWhoJr: link

(Old and more recent version, showing not only how things have improved over the first build, but also that the second build uses an appropriately-vintage umbrella).
