Gene Roddenberry's Genesis II: Paxer Gun (WIP)

This is from a very lesser known work of Gene Roddenberry. You almost never see it on TV (but you can find it on the internet if you know where to look) and few sites even mention it, with the exception of the fine site below. It was meant to launch a new TV series but never took off. :unsure
It's a big childhood favorite of mine, I loved the stims and would play with a stick poking my little sister and making the BUZZ noise :lol.

Well here is my work in progress on making a paxer gun from Genesis II. Pretty much just took a block of wood and sized the photo from the site below and printed it, glued it to the wood and started cutting. Still needs work but I'm happy so far (and that's what this hobby is about for me). Didn't want to use the photo without permission so here is a link to it.

A great site for Genesis/Earth 2 info and see the actual props

Synopsis
Genesis II
On February 14, 1979, Dylan Hunt is appointed by NASA to guide research in the "Ganymede Project," which was for the development of suspended animation for long duration space flights. Dylan Hunt volunteered for the first human testing which was conducted in a NASA research center housed inside a grotto, deep inside Carlsbad Caverns. It was not known that a geologic fault existed over the area, and was completely sealed off during a massive earthquake. Dylan Hunt, who had been placed in suspended animation inside the Xenon pressure chamber remained undisturbed for more than 154 years.

2133 A.D.
Members of a benevolent group of scientists, known as PAX, excavated the NASA research center and rescued Dylan Hunt, who had only aged one day for every 10 years in suspension. Dylan Hunt was aided in his recovery by a human mutant named Lyra-a. Lyra-a deceived Dylan Hunt over the purpose of PAX, and convinced him to travel with her to her city, Tyrania, in the hope that he could repair their failing nuclear reactor. During his visit to Tyrania, Dylan discovers that he has been deceived by Lyra-a, and that the city condones brutal slavery. Working with a PAX team which had infiltrated the city, Dylan Hunt leads a successful revolt of the slaves. During their escape from the city, Dylan Hunt and the PAX team are captured by Lyra-a and company. Dylan makes a deal with Lyra-a stating that he would repair the nuclear reactor if the PAX team could go free. Dylan Hunt discovers that the Tyranians are planning on using the reactor to power a nuclear missile silo, so that they can destroy PAX. Dylan sabotaged the silo and caused the bomb to detonate, thus eliminating the threat to PAX. At his return, Primus Kimbridge, leader of PAX, confronts Dylan Hunt with PAX's pacifist beliefs and challenges Dylan Hunt to join them.

Very cool!

When this aired I too was a teen-ager and of course loved seeing marriete hartley in any thing she did! ;)

I have some pics of this gun (screencaps?) somewhere on a travel drive. If I can find them I will post them for you.
If I remember correctly the gun prop was redressed and used on an episode of ST Voyager. Will get back on that also.
Later, Petseal

The story of the show sound like Buck rogers in the 24 century...... Nasa guy, Cryosleep.. future... mutants...Pacifist... Twiggy.. Ok maybe not twiggy

Hello again, I have four pics showing right, left, top and under sides. I also found the redressed prop that appeared in the Voyager episode "Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy"
According to the write up I found with the pics, can't remember were I found this, "Genesis II" was a made-for-TV movie/pilot which aired on CBS March 23, 1973. CBS declined the series so Gene Roddenberry reworked the script and retitled it "Planet Earth" staring John Saxon. ABC aired that pilot in 1974 but it was not picked up by them either. Warner Brothers, who owned the rights, reworked Roddenberry's material yet again for "Strange New World", which aired in 1975.
Hope this is interesting and helpful, Petseal

Thanks for the pics. I wish I could talk to the prop guy and ask why he used it. Did he just come across the design or did he seek it out?

Petseal- Yes! Very accurate summation! Everyone thought it all might become the new Trek, alas it wasn't to be.

Great post - THANK YOU for sharing the pics ... :love

Hello,

The paxer gun prop you were making looks very nice. I own the hero paxer gun that Alex Cord used in the movie. Yep, that was my site. :)

Thank you for referencing it in your post. Sadly, I don't have it anymore since AT&T decided not to host webpages.

I'd like to know if you finished your replica up, and if you could post some followup pics?

Thanks!

As fate may have it, this showed-up in my mail box today. Obtained directly from HMS, one of the main prop houses that supplied props to the Star Trek TV franchises (including Voyager), I have no doubt that this was cast out of the original mold from either Genesis II or Planet Earth. It does appear to have the PE add-ons to the top of the weapon.
