Gathering vintage parts: ANH Obi saber completed

Re: Gathering vintage parts: ANH Obi saber

I've contacted a guy blindly on a auctionssite and voila, he had a complete grenade. He shipped it disassembled in two packages to avoid probable stress with the law. The first box arrived yesterday. It's a fine grenade with original paint & all parts. Very crisp and clear. Hopefully the rest will came in tomorrow. Meanwhile a few pics of both of my grenades:

Thank you Scott. It is really nice in form and shape. For a short time I've thought I like the beaten up grenade more..
Without saying a word (only mentioned the No3 Mk1 and anm2) the seller knew what I'm going to do:

:lol
well known.....

Thank you Ed. The postman ringed the bell! Everything looks so cool. Piece of history and film culture!

I really think that they've converted the top section with the "crown" (the clamp where the grenade shafts down to the rifle) are converted to be the adapter to hold the balance pipe. Maybe they've removed the clamp, turned it upside down and bended it to fit into the balance pipe. I've used some kind of rubber stoppers which I've cutted down to hold the pipe in place down to the grenade end. So I've not "destroyed" the original grenade piece:

The idea was as stated above to hold everything secured in place:

After more trimming the rubber fitted very well:

Not the end of the road but I'm on my way.

Re: Gathering vintage parts: ANH Obi saber

You original OBI parts guys are killing me... I've probably posted this same post in every thread like this... but can't help myself.

Next year... Next work contract signed, I'll start with a grenade.

Re: Gathering vintage parts: ANH Obi saber

Thank you Marv :)
I have something different in mind what I wanna try.

Thanks a lot Praecidium. Much appreciated on both of you.:thumbsup

Do it, it is so interesting and fascinating! I don't know what it is but it's kinda hypnotic to me. If u love history and movies u can't go wrong....I'm in love with real world stuff which are converted props.
I never thought I could manage all those parts. But now I'm half way through.

Re: Gathering vintage parts: ANH Obi saber

Yeah I figure if I go for a grenade next year, and take my time, it MAY not kill me collecting parts over the long run.

The fun will be in telling my wife...

"Look what I found buried in the backyard... what are the chances?!"

ANM2 Booster found within a ANM2 WW2 set! Last part is on the way, yeah!
The previous group buy ended in a dead end, but after exactly one day I've found that auction.

Geez. That's awesome.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but what is that highlighted square on the bottom? A part for the Emitter?

Re: Gathering vintage parts: ANH Obi saber

Holy crap!!!!!!!!!

This is truly a holy grail crap!
I've never thought I would find one in that short time after the group buy was a no-go.

No stupid at all. From what I've read it is threaded into/onto the booster. JamesKenobi used this part to be inside of the clamp (If I remind correctly). So it should be a part of the booster.

To get these through customs I have to leave the other parts to the owner. That's too risky at any time. I guess they would arrest me, and that's just because I've wanted to build a SW prop.:lol Other description and a lower stated price will get these parts hopefully to my home.

Re: Gathering vintage parts: ANH Obi saber

In fact without the find of the derwent engine from the other guys this/my/other sabers would have not became a true thing. So again, great find to those who found 18 balance pipes in one spot.:thumbsup
I've also contacted a few guys I've needed their help for the booster. Thank you again. The seller agreed to ship them directly to me. (He stated no international shippings, so I would have needed a middleman to ship this to me).

Re: Gathering vintage parts: ANH Obi saber

dang... well... if your connections come up with another one let me know! ^_^

Re: Gathering vintage parts: ANH Obi saber

Sure I will. Even emailed him about exactly that theme. Always glad to get help and also willing to share my hand:thumbsup

Re: Gathering vintage parts: ANH Obi saber

Postman came today! No customs at all...I'm so glad about it. I would have to say about it something like: "ahm....here we have...a.....several car parts for a.... a air conditioner from an.....":lol
I was so afraid about it. But finally:

And here's the letter "B" engraved. I guess it stands for "Browning" or "Bearing", Barrel, Booster...?
The booster itself is very heavy and the total weight of the saber is great.
