Game of Thrones

I haven't read 5 yet but I did enjoy 4 but not at first, I didn't appreciate and enjoy book 4 until I read it a second time through after re-reading 1 - 3. The hardest thing to get into in book 4 is the way that it starts, instead of picking up with familiar locales and events from book 3 it starts out in a new locale with new characters that we have no idea on how they fit into the greater scheme of things. However, I found that after reading it a second time through I found the new characters more interesting and wondering how they'll fit into the greater scheme of things.

I had the same feeling. I breezed through the first 3 books, and especially books 2 and 3 and they kept me on the edge of my seat. Then you start book 4 and it's a real shocking contrast. Even the writing style seems to change and all the new characters were tough to get into. But by the end of the book I was hooked again. Still have to read book 5. I'm waiting for the paperback.

Iron Throne ale finally came in at my local liquor store. Saving this for the S3 premiere. :)

Such a great season premiere. One small change had me scratching my head, but wasn't enough to really ruin it for me. Loved the scene with Tyrion and Tywin. I think s3 is really going to be awesome!

I was a little disappointed how they just kind off glossed over the battle between the Nights Watch and the white walkers in the beginning. But a very enjoyable episode.

I thought it was an excellent opening for Season 3!
It seemed far too short, but of course there is so much to cram into this season, I'm sure a lot of detail will be left out. Shoot...you could almost make a series for each of the main characters.
Just loving all the glorious attention to all the background detail!

That giant was completely unexpected and awesome. I really hope we get to see some giant ass kicking action in future episodes

I expect we will. Why show the guy and his power if they won't eventually use it?

There were two changes that I noticed, which kinda struck me. I added spoilers for those who haven't read Book 3.

First, I thought in the book that Sam DID send the ravens, no? He had the one job, but he did it, I thought. Or did I misremember?

Second, I thought Barristan Selmy's identity was kept secret for a while? I mean, I know the AUDIENCE knows who he is, but Dany doesn't and, as I recall, that was one of the three betrayals foretold about her. And its discovery happens about the same time as her discovery that Jorah Mormont betrayed her, too, no?

Anyway, good opener. You can tell it's a good show when you get to the end and you're like "Wait, that can't have been an hour!"
