Galaxy Quest Props

Since getting my hands on Pegasus Hobbies' Galaxy Quest Nebulizer/Vox set, I've spent some time online just doing random searches to see what I can find in the way of decent reference pics, namely that of screen-used pieces. Found a few of some hero and stunt Nebulizers over at YourProps.com, and more than a few fan-made pieces.

Several items that caught my eye were the prop boxes of the "licensed" toys -- Nebulizer, Vox and Surface Mapper -- seen in the convention scene. Only saw one member on that site who had them pictured, but from what I understand there was more than one set of them made for the film.

As I've now got it in mind to expand on the non-Trek portion of my collection, I was wondering if anyone here (with connections in the industry) might know where those props have gone? Being screen-used I wouldn't stand a chance of being able to afford them myself, but I wouldn't mind finding some decent close-up shots of the boxes so I could maybe get a set of replicas done up.

Another item I'd be interested in seeing pics of would be the Galaxy Quest Technical Manual, which I've heard was simply a TNG Tech Manual with a redressed cover. That'd be kewl, too. If anybody can help me out with my search, it'd be greatly appreciated

Man I would love to help ya with this but, I don't know any one, or any thing, other than what I see in the movie, and what I find on Google.

A bit late, but then I'm new... I run the Questarian.com GQ fan site and over the years I've collected several prop casts, one very well done VOX prototype that was supposedly a demo piece for Masterpiece Replicas, and the prop boxes from convention scene. Decent shots of screen used props has been hard to find, and I've only been able to get good first hand shots of some of the Protector props.

The Pegasus Vox & Nebulizer are great, but look a little off... I haven't spent much time with the calipers measuring out the differences but the one really obvious things is the disk on the cover arm is larger on the Pegasus kit. the hinge detail looks a bit off too.

I've blueprinted the VOX from prop castings I got back in 2000 from a very reputable source... they're the stunt versions, but they're directly from screen used props. the prints are close, though the back cover and hinge detail is a bit off. I've been meaning to update the prints to reflect some the better detail the VOX prototype reflects. A few years ago I got a hold of a Nebulizer casting (Thermian version) from the same source I got the VOX's from, but things died down on the site, and there wasn't much interest, so I never drew up any prints... but it's a bit different as well.

Ah, yes! I've been to your site more than once. Good pics, blueprints and info you have there.

How does your Nebulizer (Thermian version) casting differ from the Pegasus Hobbies kit? Are there any major things I'd have to alter?

Btw, when you say "over the years I've collected several prop casts [...] and the prop boxes from the convention scene", do you mean you've actually got a set of those in your possession?

The Nebulizers are very close, the length's the same, side profiles match up, though the top profile on the Pegasus body is noticeably fatter. The grips are the same basic size and shape, but the edges of the kit are rounded where as the cast is beveled, and the indentation of the bit above the grip is more pronounced on the casting.

Yup, I have convention scene prop boxes of the Nebulizer, VOX and Surface scanner.

Hey, I've e-mailed you a few times over the years. I'v always hoped there would be a renewed interest in the movie, comic, site. It's not that people haven't seen the movie... It just wasn't remembered. I'v been trying to get my hands on some things but it's hard to find thing's - and when you do they charge $,000 's as if it's Huge movie and every one's fighting for the prop. Every now and then I find some promo stuff on "a bidding site" and get lucky.
I just hope it get's picked up in some way.

Never give up! Never surrender!:love

Kewl! I never realized you'd done up a Nebulizer before, and totally forgot you'd done up the Surface Mapper, lol.

That looks awesome, btw. I downloaded the blueprints Questarian posted on his GQ site, with the plan to one day make myself one of those.

Hasn't happened yet of course, but one can dream :lol

Could you post a pic or two showing what you mean? If possible, I'd like to try and correct any discrepancies in the kit.

If I didn't email back, my apologies... It's died down and I don't check the site box as frequently as I should.

Ya, The stuff is hard to find and any time I've run into hero stuff it's seriously expensive... way beyond my meager budget. I've been lucky and gotten my hands on a few reasonably good GQ pieces, but the "series" nebulizer been a challenge, and the surface scanner's an elusive little bugger. GQ got luck in 2010 with the Pegasus kits... after an aborted toy line and 10 years of waiting was sooo not expecting kits... so you never know.

No need, you've e-mailed back a few times, i understand the "not checking in often" mostly because there's nothing new.

Eric, Would you happen to be the same Eric from Pegasus hobbies?

No no, lol. I was just referring to correcting any discrepancies in the kit I bought from my local hobby store.

That would be kewl if I worked for one of those major model companies, though :cool

EDIT: Here are a few alterations I've made to the Nebulizer so far (I did this last July, lol) --> Galaxy Quest Nebulizer -- Pic 01, Galaxy Quest Nebulizer -- Pic 02, Galaxy Quest Nebulizer -- Pic 03. Not much done yet (haven't gone back to it since), but it's something.

has anyone added the electronics to this model set? How hard. I have never done a model piece of any sorts since I was a kid. Thought these 2 would be generally easy and I could learn form them...
