Limited Run === G R A F L E X === Flashgun Gen.2 ... now taking PRE-ORDERS!!! New Pics Oct. 5

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... "Almost there..."

The chassis look great guys - everyone eagerly awaiting reports of the first flashgun shipment arriving in a customer's hands.

I kind of like that they've posted chassis that will go with the graflex. That new FX-Saber one looks really sweet, I may just have to build one into mine instead of just a static empty hilt.

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... "Almost there..."

here is a tip for those selling the internals - provide a COMPLETE set up. No ordering parts 1-5 and then go get the screws and whatever else is needed. Offer a complete package all in one. No hunting around for extra parts via your local hardware store or fleaBay.

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... "Almost there..."

Unfortunately that's not an option on Shapeways and there are too many options to customize.

THIS.

I would love even more to be able to get a complete kit with all the wires, led's etc. There is so much information out there, that its pretty easy to get confused when you've never done it before. I only recently did a very simple TCSS conversion on a MR saber, and it was great because I was able to order everything at once, in one place and follow exact instructions, wiring and all. I would love to do one of these kits for a TFA reveal saber, and the Goth "Knight" kit looks great, but I don't even know where to start with all the of rest of the bits (Sound, light, etc). I know there are a ton of options out there, but it would be nice to get a complete kit from one place.

Also, quick question. Are any of these designs going to work directly with the Roman internal parts? Or do all of them need a blade holder? It would be nice to have something plug and play with the internal flashgun parts, for those that don't want to take the internals apart. Just a thought. You could do a small LED reveal, with sound, and not worry about the blade LED.

Keep up the great work!

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... "Almost there..."

Well, like already stated, Shapeways is just the 3D printing service.

Personally, I feel that it would take something away from my builds if everything was just shipped to me in a kit with all the needed pieces. I like to pick my own screws, my own electronics, my own wiring colors, and especially my own crystals (I tend to stick to Idaho quartz for mine). Anyways, to each their own.

Now back to the hand-wringing and page refreshing... :D

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... "Almost there..."

I don't mind sourcing every bit myself, it's only Shapeways that I'm not a fan of. Poor quality initial results which require a lot of work to clean and smooth, while being very expensive. It's great as a prototyping service but it's not ideal for mass-replication except to take a financial burden off the seller (no tooling nor inventory costs).

Still trying to decide how my chassis will end up - I'm also not interested in adding the capability to attach a blade, so I'd like to keep the flashgun's own spring-loaded bulb socket in place, even if it requires some re-working.

The last couple of products I got from shapeways were surprisingly good with very little prep work or sanding needed. It may depend on the materials offered.

Re: === G R A F L E X === Flashgun ... "Almost there..."

No shipping notices yet, huh? I have to agree that this run thread is probably not the best place to advertise a chassis. Just me. I'm gonna get one but I don't really need ads for them here. Come to Big Al's Chassis Emporium. Your one stop shop for stuff to hold your electronics. Roman, where art thou?

I think Romans trapped under an avalanche of boxes & boxes of G R A F L E X flashes :D
