FYI RECASTER ALERT atom_kinder on ebay has stollen my work

There's a way to check. Go back and look at the junkyard pages for the items he has recasted. Compare the RPF names and see who has purchased from all the members here. It might not narrow it down to one member, but it'll point you in the right direction.

Ebay names are as follows, prestige_worldwide_llc from June to July 2013, Ceylon_trader march 2011 to June 2013, thefourthreich from February 11 to march 11, ursus3978 from nov 10 to February 11. Do any of those names ring any bells? Of course that's just from that account.
Do you want me to stick something on fisd? I notice he also has a stormtrooper lid for sale.

Those are the names that the current account (atom_kinder) has used... He's just changed them as he gets too much bad press. eBay hasn't shut down or done anything to any of those names (it is still the same account). Hollywoodpropmasters is the only one that has actually been shut down by eBay.

Reported. Good luck tracking him/her down.

We are looking into it, he recasts every thing from others work to sideshow busts ect.

Thanks yes he is a sneaky guy and uses many accounts and user names to rip people off. I think his trooper helmet is a recast efx. Please post on the fisd and spread the word so more people don't get ripped off.

Ebay has closed a few of his accounts but they don't seem to care to permanently stop him :(

Had a suggestion from darth vortees on fisd that the boba is a rip off from someone on mando mercs. Other than a suggestion of which helmet the stormie is, a bit quiet over there.

Yes it a NME props assassin helmet. He is also recasting asok's boba helmet and a efx pcr trooper helmet to name a few.

Comments from fisd

ah yes, i know this ********* well. He has several ebay accounts many are closed due to his scamming. He used to go by the name of Gary Chaboya. file your paypal and ebay claims immediately. This guy has a whole heap of excuses to hand you. He was a member at the Dented Helmet until he scammed a bunch of people. He also has an ebay account under insane_collectibles. He is located in Southern California. I had to file a claim with him to get my pulse rifle. I had to get nasty with him once in order for him to deliver my buddy his bucket. Seriously avoid this colon polyp like the plague.

Guys, not sure if it's the place to post, but just a heads up. I ordered 2 jawa blasters off fan_made@yahoo.com(Jess Patrick Ruiz) for my 2 kids for a show. the guy took my money & sent nothing. BEWARE: wouldn't want anyone else getting ripped off

To say the kids are disappointed is an understatement, they were so looking forward to the show.

If it helps any. The first post was a guy called smitty I've bough some bits from, he's a really good guy.

OP use this link to report to eBay. http://pages.ebay.com/vero/notice.html
Follow up with a legal letter to them as well. They will remove the listing, and close account if relisted. Since he opens multiple accounts, you will need to keep watching for him to do this.

Bumping this as I have now found this guys selling recasts of my Christain Bale Batman sculpt:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dark-Knight...771?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c9d8b8a03

How would I go about reporting this to ebay? What "category" does this fall under? (I've never reported an item before).

Same for you, use this link http://pages.ebay.com/vero/notice.html

Here it goes again these type of threads are funny....(I don't agree with copying others work mind you but reading a counterfeiter complain about another counterfeiter is weird to read)
Rules to go by when selling kits..

1. If you dont want something "recast" or copied then don't sell kits....simple
2. If you do sell kits then accept the consequences along with it....simple
3. Selling intellectual property products: Don't complain someone stole "your" work when in fact both the kit maker and the "recaster" are selling counterfeit items yes the maker because last time I checked DC owns anything all things batman...and copying works from someone who is also selling counterfeit items to begin with in my opinion is no difference

Just my two cents, agree or not.....this is how it is.

Sounds like an excuse a recaster would use for justification, just my two cents..

Recasting an item and selling it as you own work, is just plain wrong. However I do understand your reference to intellectual property and licensing and you are probably correct in the legal sense of stealing an idea and selling it as your own. But, if someone who has made an item from blueprints/measurements available freely on the internet or just sculpted it from views from photos or videos, I think that is art, and you should be able to sell that work because it is your vision of what you saw on screen.
For example, I don't see anything wrong with someone who makes a model of the Eiffel Tower and sells it. You can buy 3D samples of it on the internet, and as far as I know, no lawyers from France are giving out C&Ds out to these 3D printer companies.

Like with a lot of things with life...there is black and white on either side, but the middle is filled with several shades of grey. (No, that wasn't a reference to a recent movie...lol)

I tend to agree with MXM if we are talking about "the world outside the RPF": most prop replica's here are created without the proper licensing. So reporting a recaster on eBay with:

Report Category: Copyright and trademark
Reason for Report: Bootleg records or unauthorized media (following your example)

is a bit funny, since you more or less admit that your own work also is "bootleg".

But within the RPF community, we all realize that the "original bootleg stuff" is in many cases better than the licensed stuff. I guess in my collection only 10% of the props or licensed replica's (maybe even less), all the rest is made by members here (or myself). I fully support this bootleg work from RPF members and I also think that within the RPF, this work should have some kind of "copyright". So recasting is not done within the RPF community, and if someone here is buying props and recasts them to sell again, indeed that person should be banned from the RPF. But to the outside world, what the recaster does, is nothing more than illegaly copying material that was produced illegaly to begin with...
