Full Metal Jacket screen caps

Does anybody have or can any one help me get screen caps of the "born to kill/Peace" helmet? I have the poster and can't find my DVD. I picked up a Vietnam Helmet that is pretty close and want to make the iconic helmet. The one in the poster is discolored. Of course I would also want both sides of the helmet and any help to ID the ammo as well.

Thank you,
Andy

Only pic I can find of screen used Pvt. Joker helmet from Kubrik site...

The helmet is a standard Viet Nam era steel pot with standard issue camo liner. The ammo on the helmet is 7 rounds of 7.62MM FMJ (hint) belted ammo used for the M60 machine gun.

"What kind of a Marine writes 'born to kill' on his helmet while wearing a peace symbol on his body armor?!"

"Sir, I'm professing the duality of man, Sir!"

"The 'duality of man'? You'd best explain yourself, Marine or you will be standing tall before The Man. Why don't you get onboard for the big win!"

Mechamaniac is correct- other than the hand written lettering and a pack of Lucky Strikes [did they have green or red circles during VietNam? I know they were green during WWII & Korea...]

Hard to find anything on the 'net in the way of caps or good pictures of the helmet.

Great movie but after watching Vincent D'Onofrio play Pyle it took me a long time to be able to watch him as Goren in Law & Order: CI. :D

I'm with SurferGeek on this one... way too creepy.

Oh, and by the way, in case some may not know, "Mother" (the "you walk the walk, do you talk the talk?" guy) is Adam Baldwin. Jayne in Firefly/Serenity.

The 7.62mm FMJ rounds are still used today and I believe I've seen dummy rounds someplace online for display with replica firearms. Maybe cheaperthandirt.com?

Are they? I thought they phased out the M60 in favor of the wimpy M249? Though I'm sure something in our arsenal still uses belted 7.62 FMJ

They're being phased out over time, but there are still some out there.

It's been a quite few years since I've been behind one, but I don't remember ever referring to the rounds as "full metal jacket." We just called them "ball" to differentiate them from the tracers. I was Army, though...maybe it's a Marine thing.

That wad of tan in the band in the screen-used picture appears to be a slightly squished packet of C-ration toilet paper. The band itself doesn't look standard issue to me. It looks too wide in the front and too dark. Maybe Private Joker hit it with his black marker.

M240 is 7.62

Well when I was in the Corps it was "ball" might of been a Nam thing. And the last time I saw a M60 was at the DoD Fire Academy in 2004, kind of funny watching all the intell boot's trying to learn grunt stuff.

It was "ball" for us as well, I was in the Army. I was referring to it as FMJ merely to re-iterate the film title reference.

And I was a 60 gunner. I loved the old girl to death. Sucks that they primarily replaced her with the M249.

Thanks for the other ref though, I didn't know about the M240.

One of the things that drew me to this board is that it doesn't seem to matter what the subject is, there are folks who have had some kind of experience with it. I've seen this on subject after subject here. Throw out a question about anything, no matter how obscure, and someone will share. Great resource.

The last time I fired a 60 was on a qualification range in West Germany around 1988. I was one of those Intel guys doing my periodically required grunt stuff...

However, I didn't mean to hijack this thread reminiscing. So to keep it on track, here's something I hope might be useful on the peace button:

I don't remember when or where I got this button originally. The movie was released in 1987. I'm guessing that I picked this up within a couple of years of that, plus or minus. I don't know if it is intended to be a copy of the one used in the movie, or if it's a found item that they used. It's marked Larry Fox & Co.

It looks like a close match to me because of the thick lines and flaring where they meet the outer circle. The peace buttons that seem to be on eBay right now have thinner, straight lines.

Check here for inert ammo and links http://www.oldsargesdropzone.com/

Cheaper than dirt may have a little better price for members. brass prices have gone up everywhere.

FMJ Full Metal Jacket is referring to the lead bullet itself having a metal jacket over the lead.

Re: Full Metal Jacket ammo

The helmet I have is closer to the film used than the poster, but the poster may have been done as a painting or was surely altered to get the "less Drab" colors. The poster is more recognizable. I may have to see about repurchasing the movie to get my caps, because I can not find my DVD of it. I may have lent it out or given it to my father.

I made my brother watch it before he went into basic training. Pretty mean of me. His idea of it before then was seeing stripes. He later told me it was nothing like the movie.

Thanks for the pin reference. If I couldn't find one I was planning on making one.

been meaning to replicate the helmet for years now.
Pretty easy with my local Surplus source.

Question is.....

Make the Helmet look like;
a) Screen used
b) DVD/Poster Art version
c) Combination of Both.

What you guys think?

Been thinking of this project for a while now too. It'll be nice to se the information come together for this.

Always go screen-used. Mil impressions are always hard because the kit is user customized so heavily.

screened used always, i agree..

but the helmet in the poster art issss soo ICONIC, and has the added detail of things in the movie :ie peace button and FMJ Bullets....

any more screen caps of the Screen Helmet?

didnt mean to hijack the thread, Thanks.
