Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt: Finished!

Re: Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt in progress

What are you doing for shoes? I don't recall if you actually get a good shot of her feet unless they show in the fight scene, which you said you're having difficulty viewing at the moment. :) I would imagine she was wearing anything earlier in the movie some sort of soft soled shoes/slippers, since we show snowfall as well off and on. For the battle armor probably something more practical and harder soled and topped. But that's just an opinion not based on any fact.

Thank you for the compliment :)

One of the mannequins where her dress was displayed was shown with teal blue heels (1-2" heel) so I may go that route if I can't get an accurate read from the fight scene.

A better version of those photos which make it easier to see the detailing.

Re: Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt in progress

Got a whole bunch more reference images but none are better than the ones I already have, except for these.

Shoes are confirmed heels. Here's what they look like.

Some great reference capture on her earrings, hair pieces (she has two of these in her hair), and that elaborate pin.

Re: Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt in progress

Bracers finished and molded this weekend.

I'll have a cast tonight. And I got a good start on the shape of the breastplate. (These are cheesetastic cellphone pics, so detail isn't picked up as well as it should be.)

Hi there. Wow amazing work you are doing!! First pic I have seen of the back too... :)

Re: Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt in progress

Hi again. In one of your posts you mentioned spoonflower fabrics, is that in America? I am in Australia. And that it would also be available as a purchasable pattern?? New to cosplay and would love to make this costume for next year (I am an accomplished seamstress :) How did you get on with the fabric printing process??? Thanks so much for your fab posts. I now need to learn how to make the armour too. :) :)

As soon as I have the swatches from Spoonflower (it's a print-on-demand company) and have confirmed them for accuracy of color, I definitely plan on making the pattern available for others to purchase :)

Re: Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt in progress

Wow that will be a very exciting day for this Frigga fan. You have inspired me to try thank you. All the very best with your costume endeavours and I will look out for your progress. In the meantime I think I might try and learn an inexpensive and easy way to create the armour and try to hand paint some sage crepe de chine. :). Mel x

Frigga's armor set is ongoing! I got distracted by making Party Thor this weekend, but am on schedule to wrap up the chestplate sculpt soon. It should be obvious which of the coldcast pieces here have been polished! :)

Re: Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt in progress

Chestplate sculpt is ongoing. Almost done with the filigree. I'll be placing down armature wire to get a perfectly smooth edge for the rows at the bottom rather than attempt to sculpt it in clay.

This is so beautiful. Can't wait to see it completed.

Re: Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt in progress

This is gorgeous so far! Can't wait to see it done. Great job with the attention to detail, you can see all the hard work

Re: Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt in progress

:) Thank you guys! I finished and molded the chestpiece this weekend, and slushed it part way last night. I ran out of plastic cups halfway through the slushing process though so I have to finish it tonight. Expect photos soon!

Re: Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt in progress

Photo spam!

These are unpolished, coldcast in bronze. They were molded in Rebound 25 and in Onyx. Two of these pieces are already polished (but not yet weathered/distressed). Items left to sculpt: the back armor and the clasp for the shawl.

You'll notice that one of the shoulder pauldrons is cracked at the top. This is because as soon as I pulled the chestpiece out of the mold, I had to try it all on, I clamped it awkwardly to my shoulder, and of COURSE it fell off and cracked on the floor before I even got the shot. So not doing that again.

Re: Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt in progress

Your work here so far is absolutely gorgeous! Fantastic detail work and sculpting. Very envious... have to add Frigga to my list for 2015. =)

Re: Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt in progress

:) Thank you!!

Small update, may not seem like much... I have now purchased and have all the fabric in-hand to complete the project! AND I found the perfect rivets for the gauntlets/chest/back-to-chainmail pieces.

il_570xN.435665665_l9f4.jpg

You'll note that I tried sculpting in the rivets to the gauntlets and it didn't quite work out (they almost universally snapped off when demolding). So finding these will not only be functional, and keep the gauntlets attached to the leather like they had in the original, but also are the right shape. Yay!

Re: Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt in progress

I have massive build envy, this is coming along beautifully!

Re: Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt in progress

Final sculpt! (Well besides for the clasp, but I'm doing that as we speak!)

I've also drafted out a first pass/mockup of the dress. I have to redraft the top but otherwise am pretty happy with it. I've also picked up all the fabric (and shooooes) and nabbed an Arwen wig from Arda wigs.

I'm going to be wrapping this up by Dragoncon (or that's the plan!) and am wrapping up two commissions at the same time. I really hope I can pull it off in time.

Re: Frigga, Thor 2 dress and armor sculpt in progress

Dress is 100% drafted and mostly sewn together. Polished and sanded down the armor where necessary. Wig acquired (not yet styled). It's on!! I will definitely have Frigga done by Dragoncon (just over a week away now!!)
