Thanks for the encouragement. It has been an enjoyable project so far. I wish I had the mold done already. I am anxious to get one completely painted up and decked out but as they say, "Anything easy is seldom good and anything good is seldom easy"...I could use some patience though.REYALS said:

Hey Bonz, did ya get the edit thing figured out? Had to check out your post again. This is one of the best bio's I've seen. The proportion and more so the symmetry are spot on.

Your not the only one excited about it Steve! I can't wait to see one of these complete. Make sure and get lots of pics of the process, and good luck. By the way, next time your ready to make an order, let me know. There's a place in Atlanta that I get all my stuff from, and he deals with smooth on stuff. Faster and a little bit cheaper on the shipping.

Thanks for the comments guys. I am the one who is speechless and very humbled to say the least. I have enjoyed learning new things from so many highly skilled individuals like yourselves here on the Lair. Your support and encouragement are very uplifting. If all goes well I hope to have (Lord willing) the molds completed by the end of January at the latest but I am certainly not going to rush it. Now that he biggest most expensive part of the molding materials are on the way I will start collecting a few more of the cheaper materials I will need to get started.

Here is another update. My Smooth On materials should arrive today. YAY! So, I have started to prepare the base to make the mold on. Here is what I have done so far and just my way of going about it as I realize there are many ways to accomplish this process so I hope I learn as I go. Any input from those who have gone before me would be greatly appreciated if it could avert a potential disaster that I am blindly heading towards. Anyway, I picked up a 1 x 10 pine board, a piece of 1/2" x 24" x 24" drywall and a couple plastic signs from my local home improvement store. Using the bio as a guide I drew a basic side profile contour of the underside curve on the pine board and cut it out with a saber saw. Then I duplicated the piece and used the remaining straight section of the board to separate the two side pieces and screwed them to the bottom board. Then I scored some lines on the drywall to allow it to fit the contours created by the two side boards and screwed it down. This formed a very solid surface with which to mount the helmet on and form a seam line between the front and back halves of the mold. I then took the two plastic signs and used my 3M77 spay adhesive to glue down the signs to the curved drywall. The bio fits it well and will help minimize the amount of modeling clay I will need to fill in the gap between the helmet and the flange. To make it easier to remove the mold from the flange I plan to secure a couple more plastic signs to the existing ones with just binding clips so they can be easily removed. That it the plan anyway.

Giggity! Looks like you've put some thought into this Steve. That's one heck of a fine looking mold base ya got there buddy. It's obvious that you pay attention to details, and think things through instead of just jumping in and doing it on the fly (my way lol). I can not wait to see one of these completed. Thanks for the update!
