My son is a huge Halo fan and for Christmas got several Halo mega bloks set. One of the ones he really wanted was the Pelican. However it was pretty pricey so he didn't get that one.
He has been doing a lot of work around the house and doing great at school. so I decided to spend a few hours each evening over the past three days and built him a big suprise.
Here are some (a lot) of pics. I didn't start taking pics until the main part of the build was done but here are some progress pics.
I am making the cockpit open so he can put a figure inside.
I am also leaving the back loading area open for figures.
Working on the wings.
Looks like there will be enough room inside for one pilot.
And room for drop off.
I was going to just paint the cockpit, but I thought my son would like it better if he could see the figures inside.
Cockpit looking good.
I used clear plastic from toy packaging for the windows.
I was also able to make room for two figures.
I put a back wall inside the loading area so small pieces wouldn't fall inside the ship.
Started painting.
Hanging out to dry.
I glued a piece of mage blocks onto the floor so my son can stand a figure or two inside.
I also added this hook, so he can hang a warthog on the back just like in the games.
Here's some pictures of a warthog loaded onto the back.
I added some plastic tabs onto the cockpit so it would stay in place.
2 pilots seated.
All in all it took about 6 hours to build. it is not perfect but well worth the time. When my son came home from school today I was able to give it to him.
