Foam Machine (Eventually pic heavy)

Thanks man, I hope that others building war machine keep motivated and finish their suits. Since iron man is seems to be the costume to build, we have to give war machine love too!!!

Great looking WM! I am definitely doing a WM next and since it'll be a while from now when I finish up my MKIV, I am probably going to be doing the new WM from Iron Man 3. Sick suit though!

I crawled out of the reality hole:lol. I either tweak out on making things, or don't do any at all. I lurk all the time though. I've been trying to make successful mold of the helmet, but shipping silicone to hawaii is killer.

McFly, ditch the Mk IV. We need more WM!!!

Well being a true procrastinator I finally got a few more pics of my warmachine. I will get some shots of the back later (procrastinating) and the gun. Most of these are of the suit on a stand, and it's a bit taller than I am when I wear it. I'm about 5'10" without the helmet on. My movement was very limited and I could barely see out of the eyes when walking around at night. But everyone loved my costume, I showed up my kids, and isn't that what it's all about?

fynixdown, sorry I didn't see your post, but I repainted. I'll see if I have the cans but I think it's Rustoleum brand paint for fabric and auto dashes.

I might be mistaken, but In the third image it looks as though your face plate has lines/brush strokes that simulate metal. Wondering how you pulled that off - it looks fantastic.

The brush strokes were actually an accident. When I was weathering the helmet, I had diluted black acrylic paint (3 parts paint 1 part water). The rag I was using was already soaked, and it was just streaking the paint like that. I just made sure it was all vertical lines.

My gloves ended up being an experiment for me. After 2 uses, there is no flaking of paint and only a small tear on the right hand between the thumb and pointer. The left was thinned out brushed plastidip, and the right was spray plastidip. The paint cracked but didn't flake off. Pieces that I had used watered down glue seemed to flake off easier. I used the same primer for both, so I'm not sure what the cause is other than maybe the plastidip flexes better. I also have an ammo belt but the Velcro fell off:angry.

Amazing build.... Lol I don't think I could ever get that good using foam
And kudos to a Great War machine haven't seen many out there cheers!

Thanks Henry! I actually redid most of the suit, so I knew what to change as I redid the parts. For me, the plus side of foam is that there's no body work involved, plus since foam is dimensional layering the pieces speeds the process up. Also, heat forming the pieces helps to get it into the right shape. A decent paint job can work wonders too!:lol. The best advice I can give is to buy a roll and practice making a complicated piece with lots of angles and curves. After the first time, you'll see how to adjust the angles when you cut. My first shoulder was terrible, the second time was waaaaaayyyyyy better.

Well with you and STEALTH busting out these two amazing WM's, I can't follow up to that. I'll do the IM 3 WM that way I can be one of the people that other builders compare their suit too. :)

Nooooooo, the point of the thread was to inspire others to build thier own. Don't give me too much credit, just trying to show people that anyone can do this. I realized that the 2 biggest factors in this hobby/obsession are time and skill. As long as you have plenty of either you can make it work. I will settle for your IM3 warmachine.

I build because I enjoy it, not to make money or to discourage anyone or have anyone compare to mine.

I'm not the best costume maker out there but I know whether I did a good job on it.
It's not about "his is better" or "yours is better" to me.

I build it for myself as a stress reliever and find it cool to share the build with other builders my own way.

I don't really like Iron man right now so I'm doing a Free hand/scratch built Robocop. He's not really too popular but that doesn't matter to me. I'm going to share it regardless because I like to share my work/progress.

I'm doing it for myself because I loved him growing up, he's awesome and a great way to challenge myself by doing it free hand. That's my reason for that project. That's just an example.

You need more of a reason to build than being admired like that.

Building for fame isn't really a good idea.

If you build the Iron Patriot and someone builds it better?
Will you stop building it?

any way man, I'm not trying to sour you. You're a really nice guy and a great supporter of everyone's builds. I'll gladly support you on whatever you build whether it's War Machine or Iron Patriot

good luck buddy.

Well said.

I know mine won't be as good as other builds, but i can rest easy knowing i'll never run into one of those better versions lol.

its a fun hobby, regardless of how perfect the end result is.

I know. I meant it in a joking/compliment kind of way. After starting my MKIV, I have realized how much time it takes to do a suit. I am pretty far into my build yet I still have countless hours to go.

Thanks STEALTH and like I said above, I meant it in a joking/compliment way. You are "famous" on this forum for building and helping others get into this hobby (even me) so that makes me automatically respect you. I have no desire to make money or getting fame for building something. Like you said, you build for the fun and the stress reliever which is what I do. I am taking my time on my build and I normally work on it when I have a rough day. :wacko

Thanks for the support. I really do appreciate it. :thumbsup

Whoops, didn't know the thread still had people in it...:lol. But anyway, gannikus I pepped the helmet, since I wanted to mold it. Originally I was going to do a whole fiberglass suit, but ended up using foam to see if I could make a presentable costume with supposedly less work. Stealth sums it nicely, except it seems like I do this to stress myself out and give me a challenge.
