Foam Machine (Eventually pic heavy)

FYI, DO NOT USE LATEX FOR YOUR MOLDS! I could not get a thick enough coat. I used 7 layers. Malnodnarb you know you want to switch to foam. Join us...

Well, I managed to finish for Halloween. The helmet mold didn't pan out. I tried the silicone caulking method, and instead of getting a mold release spray, I used pam and screwed up the master. I then had to rush to clean it, and ended up wearing the master. I burnt out in the end and I'm not satisfied. I still need to tweak parts to fit better, clean the helmet to mold again:cry and I'm going to redo the chest, abs and gatling gun. I also plan to make an arc reactor and eyes since the ones in there now are borrowed (Thanks malnodnarb!).

one of the best foam war machine i've seen. very good job on the helmet..:thumbsup

Great looking WM! When a foam suit doesn't look like foam, that's when you know you've done well lol

How did you make the fn2000 for the gauntlets?? Do you have a pep file for them????

Pics look great! I still gotta fix some paint on my abs but after that, we need to do a photo shoot. ProjectEarth7, Yup, those are your eyes. Thanks a lot! That saved us a lot of time so we could finish up other details on our suits.

The details are incredible. We need more WIP pics.

I don't even want to bother with War machine after seeing this.
I wouldn't do it justice like you did man.

Hey, thanks for all the kind words!

Roy, I referenced your suit a lot. Thank you for posting pics.

Venjix, there's a lot of glue and plastidip. The foam is in there somewhere.:lol

Indie, I'm pretty sure I spent just as much time as you, I'm just bad at progress reports. You're a great dad for doing that for your kids. I plan on doing costumes for my daughters next time.

Kal, I free handed the fn2000's. I'll get some pics up for you. Basically I built it in 3 layers of 1/2" foam with 1/4" for all the details.

Project, thanks for shipping the eyes quickly. Quality product, you're a lifesaver!

Malnodnarb, yeah, too bad I didn't meet up with you on Halloween. Would've been awesome. If you don't post pics of your suit I will.

Stealth, you gotta do Warmachine, we need more big guns! I know I can't breakdance in my suit.

For those who want to know or see, I made the fn2000's by layering 3 pieces of 1/2" of foam. I cut a channel for the barrel, which is pvc. From there I used 1/4" and 1/2" foam for all the details and just layered them on top of each other. I tried to bevel some edges, but it's not very noticeable. As you can see the back and bottom I left empty because of time restraints, and because no one would really be looking there.

I also used CA glue along with the usual hot glue. I used CA where I needed pieces to be flat, as hot glue doesn't spread evenly and would leave a wavy surface. I think the CA may be a little stronger. When I had to separate pieces, the CA parts would tear chunks out of the foam, while the hot glue sections would sometimes peel cleanly. I use my gun on the high temp setting.

Amazing!
People have been asking about the foam pep guns but looking at this, it seems easier to scratch build them by just layering the detail on the base shape of the gun itself like how you did.

You did such great job man.

Well I'm back. I've been redoing parts off and on, and have come to the point where I'm satisfied with what I got. For those who want to know, I wanted to plastidip everything, but apparently everyone wants plastidip this time of year. I ended up doing 5 coats of wood glue for the new parts, and 3 coats for the rest. I was able to mold the helmet and make a few pulls with smooth cast 65. There's a bunch of imperfections, but for my first time I'm happy with the result. Gaze upon the albino war machine!

well now that is some cleeeeeeean foam work. if you wouldnt have said it was foam i wouldve said its a pepakura build

Haha, I think because its all white you can't see the gaps. I'm terrible at joining the pieces together. Well there's supposed to be pics of my helmet pulls below but I can't seem to upload them... :facepalm

Well being a true procrastinator I finally got a few more pics of my warmachine. I will get some shots of the back later (procrastinating) and the gun. Most of these are of the suit on a stand, and it's a bit taller than I am when I wear it. I'm about 5'10" without the helmet on. My movement was very limited and I could barely see out of the eyes when walking around at night. But everyone loved my costume, I showed up my kids, and isn't that what it's all about?

fynixdown, sorry I didn't see your post, but I repainted. I'll see if I have the cans but I think it's Rustoleum brand paint for fabric and auto dashes.
