Foam Guitar (WIP) - How to cut?

Hey guys

Ive been working on my own project today.. Wanted originally to use another guitar but there's no other guitar files online, really.. (If anyone finds any Ill be grateful for the share).

As you can see it's foam.. Based on the file I downloaded, I re-scaled it and printed in pieces.. Then pasted to the foam and cut.. And here I am..

Now I want to Hot Glue (using the gun) it all but Im unsure about how I should make the cuts.. Since theres (as you can see in the photo attached) 2 bodies and a strip to connect to each on each side.

I was thinking of maybe cutting 45 degrees each of the foam pieces..
Crossing my fingers for some helpful tips.

Cheers all

Re-thinkng about it.. Guitars are straight and dont really have a 45 degrees angel.. I reckon Ill just glue it top to bottom.. Over it.. Pictures will come next..

Hey - that's a nice looking model.

I did a foam guitar myself for a Brutal Legend costume - and I found out that it needed to be kinda sturdy to be "used" like a guitar (I mean lugged around using a guitar strap and all). I don't know if you were planning to reinforce the body of that guitar... but I started with the idea of doing like yours (2 side of the body conected by a strip).

But then, this wasn't strong enough for my needs.
I then cut about 4 or 5 slices of the body (only 1 reverse - for the back side) and glued them one onto the other. So my guitar body was full and very sturdy. I sanded the sides to the smootest I could. You can still see the lines if you look real close at the prop - but since the guitar is painted black they are not that moticeable from afar (or from a picture).

I even included a wooden dowel to support the strings - but that's something else :)

Hey man I got to say your Terminator armor is incredible.. One day I'll be as good as you are hopefully.. I just wonder how much more foam will be shed in the process ;-)

Yeah well right now I stopped working on the guitar until I get my mind fixed on the design I want it to be. I've cutted 2 sound hole shapes (on paper still not the actual guitar just yet) and I'm toying around with what pickguard (no that's not the name but something similar) I want it to have..

Definitely going to reinforce it. I'll probably finish gluing it all tomorrow and start coating (5 layers) it with PVA glue.. And yeah afger that I'll resin / fiberglass it and paint... I'm thinking either cherry red or a classic light brown but unsure of how to get these colours yet...

Im going for the whole lot here.. Strings and everything too.. Always wanted a guitar but never bothered buying one cuz I don't play so it's money gone to waste..

Can you maybe show your guitar model?

Cheers

Hey Yonih... thanks :)
You know that Terminator Armor didn't survive storage and I had to trash it recently... but there was a whole lot of foam that went in there :)

As for the guitar, I freehanded the whole thing... but it was based on the Brutal Legend main character (Eddie Riggs) guitar:

Hey bug,
Yeah went there but every single file when I try to download it says that the file is no longer hosted on the server.. Is it just me? Can anyone else give a try and report rt with answers?

Yeah i don't mind it on paper, that's how I did the first one. Just had to print some parts on 2 pages and eventually glue them all together with duct tape.. See photo attached

Fullmetal, that sucks that it had to go to the bin.. I'm hoping ill enforce my guitar quite a bit so it will be just display and hence survive for a while

Got a question... I started coating it with pva glue and putted about 1:1 ratio with water... It's still liquid but how long does it take it to dry? I want to put 5 layers in total...

Shiuld i put it outside in the fresh air to dry or inside?

Edit
I used hair dryer and it worked I think.. Is that ok?

I haven't been to that site in a while, but am now having the same problem that you described. Going to send you a PM about them.

I am in the process of making a 1/2 scale replica of a '59 Les Paul at school
Found some wood carving templates
Les Paul Top Carve | Mountain Whimsy
I'm carving the body out of foam then covering it with resin and micro. Once it is shaped I'll cover the top and sides with fiberglass. I was going to carve the neck out of foam too, but I may use wood instead.
The hard part that I'm still trying to figure out is making the pickups and other parts.
