Foam Flux Capacitor. NOW FLUXING!!!...

It's been a while since my last build, I just haven't been feeling the creative urge. But it is back and so am I.
For me, one of the most iconic movie props has to be the 'Flux capacitor' from BTTF (Back to the Future). I have been planning this build for some time now, and have slowely been doing the usual research, (finding pics, measurements and collecting parts and pieces). Now I am ready to begin, I will be uploading the first pictures within the next day or so.

Re: Foam Flux Capacitor.

Been wondering why you'd been so quiet. Glad you're feeling the creative juices flowing and looking forward to seeing your build.

Re: Foam Flux Capacitor.

Thanks,
Here is the first pic. This took me about 30mins to make. I don't think I am even going to bother painting the thing, I know it is a little dark but it will work for now, I havent fixed the top/front on yet as I need to work on the lights, which I plan to start tomorrow. I should have this finished in about 3 days.

The top/front is simply a flat piece of foam cut to shape. For the rest of the box I cut a smaller piece the same shape as the top/front then wrapped foam around the edge of that piece and glued it down. The top is just layed on for the picture.

Re: Foam Flux Capacitor. First picture added.

Looks like a good start. I built one for my DeLorean back in1993. I can remember it was much harder to build this back then, not alot to go by and not as many cool materials to build with. I think the hardest thing to make look right was the flashing lights in the clear y shape. Definitely one of the coolest things I ever added to the D-Car, got alot of looks. Do you own a DeLorean as well?

Re: Foam Flux Capacitor. First picture added.

I wish I owned one.. it is on my wish list and the wife says it will stay there for a long time!!.. lol.

Thanks guys.

More updates.
First I needed some thick clear plastic, however I didn't have any nor could I afford any. So I made a template out of card and then traced it onto some clear thin plastic that I saved from my kids toy packages at Christmas. Using 'crystal clear tape' I taped the pieces together and came up with these.

I liked how it came out so I went ahead and made 2 more.

I also cut the front window out of some more thin clear plastic.

Wow! I'm always amazed at your creative solutions.

Re: Foam Flux Capacitor. First picture added.

It looks fantastic!
I tried to build a flux-capacitor for a long time ago, but I slowly lost interest and I just gave up. But keep your work up! :)

Re: Foam Flux Capacitor. First picture added.

I've wanted to build one of these on the cheap. Subscribed, and will be watching with interest. Keep the updates coming!

Re: Foam Flux Capacitor. First picture added.

This is fantastic. This actually makes me feel like I might be able to make one some day. Thank you for some great ideas!

Re: Foam Flux Capacitor. First picture added.

Great work! Got something else to keep my eye on.

Re: Foam Flux Capacitor. First picture added.

You guys are very welcome.
Small update (no new pics yet)
I messed up the lights I had so my darling wife said I could order some more, they only cost $15 shipped. I will be ordering them tonight and they should come in a week. But I will keep on with the build, still lots I can do while waiting for the lights.

Re: Foam Flux Capacitor. First picture added.

I just wanted to test the lights I do have, they are ok but only 2 lights in each part I believe there should be 3, and the don't sync up right.

We can never put our hobbies/passions in front of family. You're a good man, and it's slick that you're wife let you get a second batch of lights. Awesome build again

Re: Foam Flux Capacitor. First picture added.

Yeah it is, however i can not find the right sort of lights so I am not sure what I am going to do now lol. I have been searching all night on ebay and found nothing.

Re: Foam Flux Capacitor. First picture added.

For our sake, if/when you do find em, let us know where you get em from.
