FM :48 TIE Fighter in December

Thanks Clerval for the heads-up, and although I admire the quality and detail of Fine Molds' kits, it should be noted this is not 1/48 scale but rather 1/64!!! :eek

The original (ILM) TIE ships had been built in the same scale as the Rebel snub fighters, making filming and composing of shots (especially in the Death Star scenes) easier for the crew. Both the original X- and Y-Wing models are 1/24 scale. The TIE pilot figure which was added for filming of Empire origins in the Airfix Harrier kit, which is 1/24 too.

Compared to the filming miniatures, the present line of TIE ship kits from Fine Molds is not in 1/72 but 1/96 scale therefore. And assuming they used the current kit's data and enlarge it by x1.5 (like they did with their own X-Wing), the new release will not fit into the 1/48 range of existing kits.

By the way, the old AMT/Ertl "TIE Fighters" (Dual set) kit and MPC's "A-Wing", "X-Wing (SNAP)" and "TIE Interceptor" kits are 1/63-1/64 scale as well... :angel

The scale may be incorrect but the detail will be outstanding.
I may grab a few anyway.
I'm still waiting for a Y-wing in 1/48 scale, wishful thinking.

Great news! I was wondering when it would come. Ya its a shame theyre doing it to small though.

Barry, I dont think its fairly safe guess that they will release a 1/48 y-wing too.

Falk, bingo! This is why I asked Chris Trevas whether he was going to be allowed to come up with a 'plausible' figure for his new blueprints.

All the Holocron figures tend to be way understated. FM toes the licensor line, so their Falcon was way below 1/72 also.

Speaking of the Falcon, that's going to be available, again, in December too.

No, there's been a large demand for :48 and it should be capitalized on while it exists. I've only heard of two other :48 projects, both are SW/ESB/Jedi era ships (the Y and Interceptor), so I think the OT is getting the love, which is fine by me.

Too bad the TIE ships are not 1/48 scale... as were the Imperial ship kits in their smaller line - not 1/72 as advertized but rather 1/96 (quarter studio scale so to say).

Then what scale are my other fine molds 1/72 ships in???

I've got the tie fighter, x-wing, y-wing and falcon

Frankly, I wish they would stop with reissuing models they've already done in different scales, and instead, focus on releasing some new items. (And yes, I understand that making the same ship in a different scale is basically creating a new product for them.)

They're initial line was so successful, but they've barely scratched the surface of the various vehicles. Just some suggestions of things I'd like to see them do:

Tyderium shuttle
AT-AT
Star Destroyer
Death Star
A-Wing
B-Wing
etc....

I was really hoping for a 1/72 ATAT at some point from these guys, recent releases, for me at least, have been totally lacklustre, this TIE included.

I just dont see the point in all the redo's in other scales, and, where are the capital ships?

I still think the biggest fanfare from FM is the 1/72 Falcon, mandible and hull curvature aside, it really was an amazing acheivement......from there on, i say they have lost the plot just a little.

There is a lot of dispute. The Falcon definitely seems smaller than it should be, and I'd say somewhere in the 1/90's. The AMT Falcon is probably something in the 1/80's, and the FM kit is smaller in size than the AMT. I've even seen FM kits listed in a more accurate scale on the placecards for kits entered at contests. It seems to me that all or most of the FM kits, while seemingly smaller than the advertised scale, are roughly in scale with EACH OTHER, so doing dioramas can be okay. In reality, if you build any one of the ships, is there any specific reason that a kit MUST be 72nd scale an NOT 96th (or whatever) when you go to build a kit by itself, as most kits are built. Sure, if I buy a piston rod for my car's engine, I don't want it underscaled. But I don't personally have a problem with them being slightly smaller. I still have a total of 20+ FM kits and always looking for more. (I also have no objection to anyone who wants to continue to point out that there are accuracy issues and scale issues. Without such people, we are all less informed.)

:confused:lol

Pretty cool, but I agree with your list. Get on with the 72nd scale, while working on the 48th scale re-issues. Surely up-scaling things that's already been made don't take as much manpower than doing things from scratch.

With the scale issue. I've been collection 72nd scale military figures and thought it awesome that these ships were to scale.
