FM 1/48 X-wing

And here for the people who wondered about the size of the kit: Maybe you get an idea of it...

Looks smaller than I expected. Is it smaller than the classic Ertl mid-sized X?

Hmmm, can't say, as I don't own that kit. What I can tell you is that the wingspan is exactly 23cm, guns included. The guns are 15cm long. As for the fuselage, I can't say, as it's not yet assembled...

EDIT: I just made a rough assembly (no glue) and measured the kit: It's 27,5cm long, from nosetip to exhaust

Update: Well, I've assembled my X-Wing as far as I dared without glueing any important parts in a way that would make it impossible to disassemble it for easy airbrushing.
Just wanted to share these pics with you, even though they don't do the kit the credit they should.

Anyway, took a few detail pics (just to show the neatness of the details) as well as a pic with a Tamiya paint pot next to it, so you can get a grasp of its size.

Anyway, this baby will remain on my desk in this stage until I can scrape enough money together to buy me my first airbrush. It's a kit I really don't want to ruin through painting it with regular brushes and leaving ugly marks and streaks or paint clutters. Needs to be purrrrr-fect!

Finally done!

Well folks, my X-Wing is finally done! All that remains to do is get the display base painted/customised. I'm hesitating between using the base that came with it and give it a nice metal and black look, or trying to come up with a DS-surface style base, which I'd have to sratch-build.
I actually like the kit so much I think I'll gonna invest the time and do the latter.

The kit is actually painted without an airbrush (I'm really short on money and I don't want to buy a piece of crap just for the sake of buying one) The fuselage colour is self-mixed (white with a hint of each beige and light gray)
For the decals, I couldn't find any Microsol or Microset, so I used a vinegar-acid solution (the basic solution was 25%, but I diluted it to about 10% more or less) and it did a damn good job.
After sealing the decals with matte varnish (rattle can) I used Tamiya weathering pastels, which I've never used before.
I must say, they really do what they're supposed to, and my X-Wing looks like it just barely survived the explosion of the Death Star. It's really heavily weathered, and I mean REALLY!

Anyway, here's a few (crappy) pics shot with my webcam, I really need to get a hold of my dad's digital cam so I can get better pics done.

Enjoy! (Comments and critique welcome)

Can someone compare this kit side by side to the Ertl X-Wing for size comparison. I have heard that this kit is very tiny...

I finally found the opportunity to shoot some hi-res pics outside at my parents' with a good camera.

Enjoy.

Reelo , it gets a little confusing. Maybe we should have had seperate threads?

Nah, why? The thread was called FM 1/48 X-Wing. Why should I open another thread if I built the same thing. I understand what you mean but I don't agree. People are smart enough to figure out who posts what... :)

Anyway, I don't plan on putting any more pictures into ths thread anyway, my model is done and I've posted the best pics. So have you. That's it...

Yours looks real good by the way. It goes to show you what can be achieved without an airbrush. I still need to paint my R2 and pilot.

Thanks! But it really is due to the awesomeness of the kit. It just made me wanna do my best. I really hope they'll make other 1/48 kits.

I thought it was about time i finished this off. Luke and r2 are done and i mounted it on a Deathstar base from some old AMT Tie Fighters. Much better than that stand that came with it!
