Fix It Felix, Jr. Arcade Machine [Fullscale! Playable!]

That is just fantastic!! Well done!

Mystery Machine? Maybe the classic Star Wars?
Nope, not Star Wars! Although I've been looking high and low for one here in north Alabama, 'would love to add that game to the collection.

There was a Fix It Felix Jr. standup game at Denver Comic Con last year ... or at least I think there was.

I buzzed past it first thing in the morning when I was on my way over to get some autographs. It caught my eye, and thought that I wanted to go back and see it.

But try as I might, later throughout the day, I could not find my way back to it. I walked around all over that part of the hall/vendor area and could never find the booth with it again. I was starting to wonder if I'd imagined it.

It's very very cool to see someone make one of these with such an attention to the details. Very nice build!
Ah man, that's crazy! If you ever find yourself on this side of the country you're more than welcome to play this machine and put that phantom to bed!

The attention to detail is amazing! I hope that I'll be able to to a Turbotime cabinet one of these days.
Ooh yeah, TurboTime would be a fun project. If I recall correctly from the movie; TurboTime looked pretty much like a Rally X machine, same cabinet design used for Pac-Man and Galaxian. Big difference was that it had a steering wheel and gas pedal, and.. something about the monitor was off, like it was mounted vertically or at a weird angle. I'll need to see the scene again.

That would be cool to get "Sugar Rush".
A Sugar Rush would be awesome, but it would be one heck of a long term project. ;)

So this thing can be set to accept quarters? How does it work if it's just an old desktop in there?
The game is just an .EXE that's programmed to mimic an early arcade game well, it even has a faux garbage-boot and RAM/ROM check. Disney's machines have a button mounted on the coin door that the player can press to get free credits, mine has that wire connected to the original switches at the end of the coin-mechs.

I guess Space Paranoids.

And congratulations on the Fix It Felix. When I was kid I wanted a Galaga game so badly my parents actually priced a used one.... I came so close ;)

I still hope to own a Ms. pac Man cabinet one day.
Y'all should check out KLOV, there's a lot of information about finding, buying, and maintaining an old arcade game... and the occasional forum drama is fun. :D Be careful though, buying machines can become an addiction!

Ah, and it's not Space Paranoids either; that's a future project! Along with Starfighter, and I guess TurboTime too 'cuz King Hippo has got me excited. :)
Here's a hint: It was released by a company based in Florida.

Well, I'm stumped. Didn't even know we had video game companies in Florida. What kind of a Floridian am I? I'm so ashamed.

Is it a replica movie prop game?

One more hint! :D
'Not a movie-game or a replica, but it and Phoenix Festival share a major thing in common.

o_O

I am awed. In awe. Stunned. Baffled. Amazed. This is Legen- wait for it -dary! Legendary!

Thank you! Hopefully Felix is the first of many to come.

Hi Gang,

Scott took FiFJ to the Phoenix Festival and it was a total hit! He even made some of his money back - .50? I don't recall a time when there wasn't someone playing the game. Kudos! :)

Yep. It figures people would like it.

As to the other game, I'm out of guesses.

Nicely done! Looks great. I'd like to do one of these some day - In the mean time I've just been doing a few MAME machines;

They're fun to build and play but I really appreciate nice artwork on all original cabinets and cabs like yours. It really adds an element that you'll never get with MAME stuff.

How do you go about booting the PC directly to the game?

Great work Sir! I'm just finishing up a scratch build Donkey Kong and I was following this thread for inspiration!

Nicely done! I only just started playing DK recently and man, that game is legit hard. When I hit 20000 points I nearly shed a tear of joy. Its hard but the difficulty makes even small achievements very rewarding. Is your DK pc based or did you get a real board?

Thankyou! I used the phrase 'finishing up' lightly I guess :lol cos I've yet to get the internals sorted! I am planning on using a PC with MAME yes, so there is the option to play other games. Trying to decide whether it's worth going for a proper arcade monitor though, you just can't replicate that kind of awesome :love

I really like the bare/varnished wood finish on your MAME unit, I was thinking about a similar finish with my DK as it looks really classy in the home but I decided to keep it original looking in the end.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Zippyy! Show us some more pics!
