Well, like the title says, this is the first model I've built since I was 15.

I figured I'd start small. Now I realize that I hate working small :lol

Anyway, here are the pics

and one just for fun

Even though I have a FM x-wing sitting here, my next model is a 1/32 Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat. I need to work on something large before getting back to tiny models I can barely see ;)

Fred,
Very cool. I actually got away from models when I was in high school. I've been doing mostly prop builds since then, but I have a box full of the FM kits just waiting for me. Thanks for the inspiration.

Don't get...? It's on one of the TIEs...

Thanks, everyone :D :thumbsup

Masterjedi, the last model I built was in high school as well. It was a P-61 Black Widow with a full diorama. I went to go pick it up from my parents place a few weeks ago and found it was mostly smashed (which is odd since I left in my bedroom closet on a shelf :unsure ). Have fun putting those bad boys together. All I can suggest is get a bright light and a magnifier ;)

PHA, don't feel bad. I didn't get the octagon either until I happened to stumble across a pic of it somewhere. I have pics of one of the studio scale models from the SW exhibit in Boston and the pentagon's not on there either :confused

Now I can't wait to start on the Hellcat :love

I only recently learned of the red Y-Wing. And I call myself a Star Wars fan. :rolleyes ;)

Hi Fred, Good work :)

looking at your nicely done piece takes me back to the time I had fun with the AMT fiber optic, Star Destroyer kit, I'd almost forgoten about that, thanks

What do you mean a red y-wing... ;) ?

I should probably pay more attention to what's on the screen instead of just enjoying the movie like a jerk :lol

............and a fine job it is too Fred, even for 17 years worth of work.

It only felt like 17 yrs. For something so small, there's about 12 hrs of work over 2+ weeks in this thing. Between waiting for stuff to dry and test fitting and puttying, this little bugger was definitely an excercise in patience

Hi Fred, I think it turned out great.

Now start some bigger models ;)

Markus

Thanks, Markus :D

After this, I'm going to the opposite end of the spectrum with the Hellcat. In 1/32 scale, she's 13" long with a 16" wingspan. I may also do an A6M5c Type 52 Zero in the same scale. Doing a little Pac. war representin' ;) :lol . But after those, I may settle into 1/48 scale as a size compromise.

And to think, I wanted to do the FM Falcon with over 800 parts. I think I'll hold off on that for a while...

Thanks, Bagpus :thumbsup

I spent a lot of time going back and forth over whether or not I want to light this kit. I wanted to do a simple red LED in the covkpit, but I really didn't want to get bogged down with trying to fit it in there and routing the wiring. Maybe if I can get a SW in a larger scale...

And a very fine 2 weeks spent I would say. Makes a very nice display from what I see.

Thanks, Rob :D

I'm still working on a final display for it. The base it comes with is supposed to look like a TIE docking station, but that was kinda boring. What I did was drill a hole in the back panel (of the TIE) and mount a nut on the inside. And I have a threaded rod that screws right in but I'm not 100% sure what I want to do next. I was thinking of going to Michaels and getting a small wooden base and mounting the rod in the base. The only problem is that the rod can only be bent so far before it snaps, so I'm still working out that dilema. Until then, it's just hanging out on my shelf.

Hey Fred,

You've got me looking (and thinking, unfortunately.....) on some suggestions for you, since you haven't quite decided....

If I may....

I'll bet it would look sharp, mounted at a forward, downish type left or right angle. What I'm explaining, would be to just use a very small metal rod protruding just through the bottom wing edge, say bottom front wing tip edge left or right, into a wooden base as you've described you'll be using.

I'll try to draw what I mean and edit this thread with it......

BRB,

Rob.

Ok Fred,

Here's what I was describing.

It took me all of 3 minutes to draw this in MSPaint, so don't laugh too hard at it.....

This does show you what I was describing though.

That was just in a Finescale Modeler magazine, pretty simple and effective.

Thanks guys :D

That doesn't look too bad, Eagle-1. I may give it a shot. But I still have the hole in the back with the nut on the inside. If I could only find a way to utilise that.

Red Five, it's good to be back :thumbsup . Just wait till you guys see my next endeavor - a 1/32 hasegawa F6F-5 Hellcat upgraded with a Verlinden resin cockpit and Eduard PE parts.
